Re: My cowplant can't be placed in my household inventory

@myrdsiexy

Is this a Cowplant that you grew from a seed that you obtained in the game via game play or one you got from debug? Items gotten from debug (like fruit trees, if I remember correctly) can have behavior limits that they would not normally.

I don't think your Cowplant, or any other plant for that matter, will advance at all in quality, condition, or growth while in inventory. Plants have also got a certain time of day that any advances kick in, and your Sim/you need to be on the lot live playing for this to happen.

You could try to debug/reset the Cowplant and see what happens?

When you try to add the Cowplant to the household inventory do you drag it there? Another method is to grab it with the hand/selector tool then hit delete to  get it into the household inventory. If you haven't tried both of those methods you may want to try the method you haven't tried yet.

I'm not a huge fan of Cowplants (long, slightly funny story), but I did save mine in the gallery (under the username SheriGR, I think the room is called something like 'Unwanted Cowplant'), so if you want to try experimenting with it you are welcome to download it from the gallery. I have done some amount of adding and removing my Cowplants from inventory in the past, but it almost sounds like your Cowplant has become bugged or something. I also believe I have a Cowplant seed in a room in the gallery that I obtained in gameplay, so if this happens to be the issue either of those items may work better for you?

  • @SheriGR I got it from normal fishing. Multiples of them, btw. But they keep getting deleted, and I get the money that I would have if I sold it. Also, everytime you pick an item in build mode you have the bottom options of putting in inventory, selling or leaving it be, but when I try doing the same with the cowplant berries just appear sell or leave it.

I as well tried your two tips, but will check if something changes when I open my game. I will also try reseting the object to see if it changes.

I tried this thing of putting my cowplant in the gallery, but I think it's too much work just to have something. I don't actually care about having, but creating a topic to ask about that seemed a great idea for when other people find themselves with the same situation.

@myrdsiexy @Angelyne22 Interesting. I just tested from a different room I had that also had a Cowplant seed, and I tried over a two Sim-day period to reproduce the issue and couldn't. I was able to move both the full-grown Cowplant and the young Cowplant that sprouted from the seed into my Household Inventory by dragging or by the select-and-delete method both on the 1st and 2nd day after I planted them. I was then able to drag them each back into the lot. I will ask a few friends if they have seen the issue in their game also.

Do you, by any chance, have as much space around the Cowplant (with no items on the ground, walls, etc) as it's green footprint requires? And do you have it in a large planter or directly in the ground? I only ask this as I have had Cowplants &/or their seeds disappear before if their didn't have the required space.

@myrdsiexy It's absolutely no bother. It's hard to say if it's only happening to you, as sometimes there are other factors that come into play on any particular lot, and perhaps they just didn't happen on mine... and maybe if I tested longer than 2 Sim days it may have begun to happen. That's why I asked some friends also, in case it's happening to them. Obviously something is happening in your game. Is your game updated? Can you include a screenshot of the area your Cowplant is in? I added a paragraph to my last post not thinking you already read it (oops) about the space requirements for a Cowplant, in case that is a factor? Please read the last part I added to that post also, just in case.

Do you have any Mods or CC?

  • @SheriGR I have some mods, but not CC. I'll try to remove them next time I open my game and see in all the current saves if still happens (also create a new one for better perspective). and yes, my game is updated

I can't open my game right now because it's very late and I have a migraine, but tomorrow (my time zone is not the same as that of usa) I'll check all of the help you provided me and see if it happens to change- sometimes I can end up not doing what you told me to do but thought that I did, I'm kinda clumsy when it's about helping myself
  • the only options when I select:

I still have to see if it's the same when it grows, but apparently it is not a consequence of the mods

@myrdsiexy Thank you for sharing that screenshot. When it's selected like that, if you press delete does it go to the Household Inventory... or what happens? When you tried without Mods do you also remove the cache file as follows?

    Spoiler
Try moving the Mods folder from your "The Sims 4" folder [Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4] to your desktop (save it for reference) and delete the localthumbcache.package file in your “The Sims 4” folder. Then check in a new game save to see if this issue is still occurring. You can test without saving in order to identify which CC/Mods are causing the issue, then remove or add updated version(s) of the Mod/CC causing the issue
  • @SheriGR I didn't remove the cache file, so I'll try that as soon as possible. And when I try pressing delete, the cowplant dissappears and I get the money I would have if I sold it

@myrdsiexy I look forward to hearing the results with the Mods and cache all removed. Thank you!

    A few of other clarifications...

    • Is the plant in the screenshot on an owned lot (a Sim owns it currently)? You cannot move anything into Household Inventory if the house/lot is not owned by a Sim. Even if the lot is not owned, though, selecting it should show the sell option, which appears to be greyed out in your screenshot. So this seems suspicious to me.
    • If you select other plants (Plants you grow, not decorative ones) are you able to move these to Household inventory in the normal manner? (For expediency of testing, I also have other plants in the gallery if you want to use any of them to test, if you don't have any on your lot already.)
    • Does this happen on other lots, other game saves?
  • @SheriGR my sims is the owner of the lot and everything (plants, animals ('cause of cottage living) and objects) can be placed in the household inventory normally. this bug is literally only happening with the cowplant.

and for your comment a hour ago: I do have the Better Build Buy mod, but I removed with all the other files and removed the cache and localthumbcache files from my game files and the problem is still happening. I also tried repairing my game through origin and it keeps the same

@myrdsiexy You could test in a vanilla game save if you want, just in case the game save/lot/etc. may have gotten bugged. In that case you may also want to download the room I mentioned that I added to the gallery with a Cowplant and a Cowplant seed, in case your Cowplant or the seed is possibly bugging out. Aside from that, I'm sorry, but I'm out of ideas. ☹️

  • @SheriGR believe me, I know you did your best and who knows? maybe with some playing I can forget about this and end up trying and having it solved
