Reporting CC Creators Locking Content Behind a Permanent Paywall

Back in 2017, SimGuruDrake issued a statement regarding the controversy behind paywalled content: https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/930045/ea-its-time-you-start-doing-something-about-the-entitled-cc-creators-in-the-sims-community/p3

Good morning folks! So I've been alerted to this thread by the mods and wanted to provide some insight here on two points of discussion: CC/Mods locked behind a paywall and Patreon.
CC/Mods Locked Behind Paywalls - Creators cannot lock content they make using our game behind a paywall. While we do not police this content (there is no way we would create a team simply to monitor this) we do take reports sent to us seriously and action accordingly.
Patreon - We understand that folks who make CC / Mods for others to enjoy are doing it in their free time and may desire to offset costs to create the content by using this service. As long as the content is still made available FOR FREE we do not mind these types of pages. Folks who have a Patreon page are welcome to provide folks with "early access" incentives for their content but it should be made available to the general public within 2-3 weeks of it being given to folks early.

I hope that this provides you with some clarity and please reach out should you have any questions.

Is this still considered a current and valid stance from the SimGurus on the topic? How would the community go about reporting creators that do not follow this guideline? There seems to be a bit of discourse on r/TheSims about the topic and a lot of people claim that the statement is "outdated."

  • How can I report a creator that require payment to access custom content? Specifically, CowBuild, most (almost all) of its content is behind a paywall, requiring payment of up to $100 (ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS) to access the content im her Patreon. Most content isn't available for free and you have to direct massage her to have access to the download links (only available for Patreons). Where can I report this disgusting behavior and why nothing happens with creators that keeps their content behind paywall? It directly goes against EA's TOU! (Her Patreon: cowbuild)

EA's User Agreement about Custom Content/Mods

We support creativity in The Sims community, and Mod creators share their content within the following guidelines:

    1. Don’t promote your Mods in a way that suggests they are endorsed by or affiliated with The Sims, Maxis, or Electronic Arts. This means you can’t use any game logos or trademarks, including versions of the Plumbob or key art designs to promote your Mods. You may state that your Mods are for The Sims 4 and/or for a specific game Expansion Pack.
    2. Mods must be non-commercial and distributed free-of-charge. Mods can’t be sold, licensed, or rented for a fee, nor can Mods contain features that would support monetary transactions of any type.

We recognize that creating Mods takes time and resources. To offset these development costs, Mod developers may:

    • offer an early access incentive for a reasonable amount of time. After a reasonable early access period, all players must be able to access the Mods in full for free regardless of whether they donate.
    • run passive advertisements and requests for donations so long as they are limited to the Mod website or distribution site, and don’t appear within the Mod itself.

We reserve the right to address any inappropriate Mods, including Mods that infringe the intellectual property or privacy rights of others, contain obscene, objectionable, or harmful content, jeopardize the integrity of The Sims 4 gameplay, or otherwise violate the EA User Agreement.

  • I thought it was against the rules to paywall cc and mods. Now why am i seeing cc creators paywalling still. From 2019 and i have to pay 5-100 dollars for cc. Alot of cc creators do this and everyone on tiktok and other social media platforms are tired of seeing paywalled stuff that they dont even own the design. Its copyright from real designers. Please we are tired of seeing greedy cc creators and modders. And on top of that sims dump behind a paywall.

A lot of paywalls are temporary. They are allowed to have it paywalled at first for like a month or two, then release it to the public for free.
