Sims 4 crashing on macboook air 2024

@tattletalestarng Could you please do a vanilla, fresh-folder, unmodded test for me?

1. Exit Sims 4 then drag your whole Sims 4 folder from Document > Electronic Arts to your desktop.
2. Launch Sims 4 and reset your Options.
3. Start with New to test if your issue recurs.

If that works:

1. Exit and copy just one file out of your old Saves folder into the new Saves folder. Use the most recent file for this. Important: Don't just copy the old folder! You want to use the newly created folders. And don't copy anything else back yet.
2. Launch Sims 4 and use Load to select that older save to test.
   
   

The test worked. What do I do after that?

@tattletalestarng Awesome! Unfortunately, the patch has now broken a lot of mods (most not listed yet, but the nature of the change means many are affected).

What I'd suggest next, then, depends on whether you've updated your game to today's patch or not.

I updated the game. Should I wait until the broken mods get listed somewhere before I move forward?

@tattletalestarng It depends on what you use, I suppose. If you're mostly a CC user, I'd say go ahead and add those back in batches. Test between each batch. If you need to remove something to retest, delete localthumbcache. This is a good time to organize CC in the folder and check for duplicates.

If you use gameplay mods or anything affecting UI, I'd wait a few days. I just added a dozen more mods to the Broken list, and Lot 51's Core Library is on it too. Right now, I advise assuming that anything not on the list can't go back on. Some modders have cleared mods for the patch, but I'm going to give that a day's chance for further reports before listing any of those here. You can always check your modders' socials or home pages, of course. And some modders don't do mod clearing, of course. I'm also now going to be reporting only key "cleared" news.

You do have the option of adding non-updated, non-cleared mods back in, but back up your saves. Personally, I'd just wait a few days or play an unmodded save for a bit.

I added all my mods back and the game runs fine. Should I add back my saves and tray files? Or was that the reason for the corruption of the game?

@tattletalestarng This does suggest you might have save corruption. Copy your saves next into the new folder and open your usual save. Try an earlier version of it as well. And try playing in a different household or lot than usual.

It took a while to reply due to my game loading quite slowly but after the recent update my game appeared to be working fine even loading much faster however the only problem is the crashing. It seems that after a certain amount of time on the game, it would just close out. I also noticed that one sim in the household I was playing in would disappear. They would still be in the household but no picture would show up on the bottom right corner and they would be completely invisible as they did tasks. Could this be from a corrupted file again or perhaps a modded issue?

@tattletalestarng There are a few things to try here to figure out your issue. The first is to test with no mods/CC at all. If you use things like cooking mods, delete plates/food first. Then drag the Mods folder to the desktop, delete the file called localthumbcache, open the game to test, and exit without saving.

If it turns out to not be a mod, you might be able to clear the glitch with a "Save As", a refreshed Sims 4 folder, or moving the Sims to a new home.

I did a mods check by taking my mods folder out, letting the game create a new mods folder, putting my mods back in order, and starting the game up to find any issues. After I found the corrupted mods my game ran the best it has in a long time. It loaded fast and didn't crash at all. I did however update the MCC command took out the better exceptions mod and deleted the localthumb.cache file. Which now made my game load slow again. i even took my whole mods folder out and it's still taking over 30 minutes to load. Is it a game issue now?
