Sims breaks when I move the documents folder

I have attempted to move the documents folder for storage reasons. Upon doing this, the folder no longer has a special icon, none of my mods register, I lost all my saves, and the game puts me back on the world menu out and deletes my new household whenever I attempt to put them on the lot and play the game. What do I even do at this point, it physically won't fit on my C disk and it wont accept being anywhere else.

Is there any way I could make another drive work? My C drive physically cannot fit all the things I have installed and I have terabytes avalable on another.

Upon doing that, I lost the folder entirely. I no longer have a document's folder with a special icon and I'm not sure what do do about that.

  • You probably didn't move the Documents folder the official way, which is why it doesn't have the special folder icon afterwards.

If you're using Windows, the official way to move the Documents folder is right-clicking on it, clicking Properties, click the Location tab and then click the "Move..." button. This will make Windows move the folder to a new location/drive and every app that depends on knowing where the Documents folder is, like The Sims 4, will know where the new location is.

I can't actually determine if this is what is happening in your case, but the files are likely corrupted due to being moved (the connection between the application launcher and storage device is non-existent--in the computer's language). In my case i attemted to move the data to a SD card that remained inserted into my computer. During my research, I did learn that it may be possible to format storage devices as an extension of the C: drive so the computer treats it as an equal. However, it would have to be fast. Noting this, it could still eventually lead to other issues as it requires altering the adminastrative functions of the computer.

I tried something similar, but it is a poor decision. The computer need to be able to recall the files from the folder you have you game data in, so the lauching application can read it (typically the EA app).
