can't link ea account to the sims 4 Xbox one

I'm not sure when this started but I noticed last night that I couldn't get into the gallery because my EA account wasn't linked to the game. I had it linked before. I went to link the account and got the "EA account linked" popup with the yes or no option to restart the game. No matter what I choose, I get a pop-up that says "Connection failed. An error occured while connecting to EA servers. (code: 4)" after it.

Today I opened one of the panels on the news things on the main menu that was supposed to take me to a lot on the gallery and got the "Unable to go online" popup even though I have a working internet connection. I tried logging onto a different Xbox account and the gallery works perfectly fine. I don't think it's a problem with my EA account, though, because I can play other games online like normal.

I've reinstalled the game without any packs, I've hard restarted my Xbox, I've reset the alternate MAC address, I've restarted the game multiple times and I've tried to change settings around on my game, Xbox, and EA account, all to no avail.

Does anyone know what is happening or what I can do to fix this?

    Hi @Ifeelsoshabbby 

    Please check if your Xbox gamertag is currently linked to your EA account by checking the Connections tab on your account information here. 

    Let me know if you're currently showing as linked or not.

    It shows the account as linked in the connections page and under game specific identities it says The Sims 4 and it shows my Xbox gamertag.

    Thanks for checking! Please run through the following steps to help clear this up:

    • Please run through the connection guide here as well as the steps from Xbox 
    • Change your DNS settings (You can use the public google DNS primary: 8.8.8.8, secondary: 8.8.4.4, unless there is a different DNS you would rather use) 
    • Try removing and re-adding your gamertag from your Xbox
    • Check that you have an open NAT type on your console

    I tried the other things and they didn't change anything, but if I remove my gamertag from my Xbox, would I lose data?

    @Ifeelsoshabbby 

    Removing and re-adding your gamertag will not affect any save data or purchased content on your account- your saves and purchased content will still be available once you re-add your gamertag.
