Everytime I go to make a pet, cat or dog, and go
to paint them, the game crashes. Or I can get out of the painting and then it will crash. Or I just click ok to paint and it will crash.

Are you seeing any error code or error message when your game crashes on you? You can check your error code history on your console by going to Settings-> System-> System Software-> Error History.
Me too everytime I try to use paint mode on a pet it crashes. Very frustrating.
This is what I get everytime it crashes upon even attmpting to use paint mode. I'm also on PS5
