Re: Grim Event (I'm sorry)

@Queenbernoski1 is there an option to expedite delivery on the mailbox? It can help to switch to a different household and it might appear for you.

On Xbox I got it back by powercycling my console and clearing my locally saved data and syncing up with the cloud again. If you haven't cleared locally saved data before, while your game is not running on your console home screen select Sims 4 with the Menu button (3 lines on it) and go to Manage Game and Add-ons>Saved Data. Then you'll see 2 sets of data, pick the set next to your gamertag/username and be careful to select delete from console only. Then immediately load up your game and it will sync up with the cloud as it's loading. That worked for me and I could order a newsletter and expedite delivery and get my newsletter in a different household.

If nothing helps, there's a bug report in our bugs section here if you want to take a look at it. EA are working on the mailbox/newsletter problems and many players are affected to varying degrees.

If you can't get your newsletter you can join the affected players by clicking the Me Too button on the first post on page 1 and you can add a Reply if you'd like to do so. Some players are also adding their tips and workarounds there too.

Hope this helps. I'll be glad when this event is finished personally. It's a fun idea but it hasn't run smoothly at all unfortunately.

  • I don't have the option to expedite my mail for some reason. I also cleared my data as suggested and still nothing ☹️

Is it cause I already completed the Assistant task on that deleted save?

I'll go ahead and hit the "Me too" thing you mentioned as well. thank you for your help 🙂

@Queenbernoski1It could be that. Do you have Grim tasks open and waiting to be completed at the moment but can't because of the newsletter and have you tried switching to a different household to see if it works? That's worked for me.
If you keep an eye on that bug thread you'll see updates from EA and maybe future workarounds too. I'm going to add the bug list for you here too to take a look at and see if you have any of the other bugs with the event.

@Queenbernoski1 Hello, I just had a similar situation, and yesterday I was finally able to replay Week 1 up to Week 4. At first, I was stuck on the Ambrosia Society Newsletter part because the Newsletter didn't show up again at first. I had already received the Newsletter and read it, but then my game crashed before I could claim the Rewards, so I had to replay most of that entire week. In my case, switching to the Willow Creek version of the mailbox worked (buy Willow Creek mailbox first, the mail carrier shows up visible in Build Mode, then delete the other mailbox), but this solution may not work in every situation. @simsplayer818 has been helpful. I will try to help you also. Questions: are you on current gen or last gen XBOX (One)? Do you have (Sims 4 on) any other platforms, such as PS4/5 or PC/Mac? There are different potential solutions in mind depending on the answer. Hopefully your issues can be solved in time to get the Rewards. I learned a lot troubleshooting my own game, with the helpful people here on this forum.
  • @simsplayer818 I've tried different saves, new worlds, different households and nothing still. In week 1 I have "Assistant to the Grim Reaper" completed and the newsletter is not completed. I have nothing completed in weeks 2 to 5 because I can't redo week 1.

I tried in different households and a new world to see if I could expedite mail, I even turned cheats on and still couldn't do it for some reason. I cleared my local data twice too just to make sure

@Xemisa2World I've deleted and put in the willow creek mailbox down because I read a different thread and tried that first before making my post, still nothing unfortunately. I've even tried other mailboxes and waited for days, still nothing. I'm on the Xbox X/S and I don't have a PS5 or PC sadly.

Thank you both for the help and advice 🙂

@Queenbernoski1 Another suggestion: if you have Sims 4 on another platform or system, the Grim Reaper's Rewards carry over from PS to XBOX, etc. on the same screenname. So, if you have a second copy of the game (and the Base Game is free now) you can play that one and you will have the rewards on both (unlike the paid DLC). (This was my plan if I couldn't get my game to work after it crashed.) Also, send your Sims and houses to The Gallery, which is cross-platform, if you are able to use it. You can download your creations again if you ever have to start over with the free Base Game version, etc. The Rewards (and the Reaper's Event activities) are cross-platform on the same screenname (as long as you claimed them).
If you are on XBOX One and already planning to upgrade to Series S or X, the faster processing speed is sometimes able to read cloud saves with some corrupted files from XBOX One, and you can go in and delete the corrupted files from Library if any (a red X will be visible if corrupted). On PS, you can't clear the cache but you can use USBs, so I like working that way. If you already have a PS4/5, you can download Sims 4 for free, you won't have any paid DLC, but if you use same screenname, you can continue with the Reaper's Rewards Event. Also, if you have any older save games from September or before the Reaper's Event, try loading one up, see what happens, maybe the mailbox trick will work on an older save (try Old Rusty and/or Willow Creek).
Worst case scenario: salvage what you can of your creations and and send them to Gallery. That way, you can use them again if you have to start over (though that doesn't solve Rewards issue, it allows you to continue with your own Sims and houses).
Also, get as many of the other Grim's Rewards points as you can because there are more Newsletters after the first week. Not sure if that will work, but get as far as you can with it because there will be more Newsletters and maybe the game will be prompted to send the old one or give you options. Also, if you don't have the Paranormal DLC, it gives you added opportunities to get points, not sure if that would help, but I thought about this when I was stuck waiting for the Newsletter (on a copy without it). Finally, turn off all Lot Challenges (besides Scare Seeker when they prompt you to add it), the Mold Lot Challenge probably crashed my game. This may be fixed now due to the most recent patch, but I am not sure, and I am leaving Lot Challenges off (except Scare Seeker). Build Mode has been glitching lately so I am using it sparingly until this Event is over. Also, I am avoiding: travel to other lots, festivals, following teens to high school, university life, etc. For Rent, Cupid's Corner, or unnecessary tasks until I finish this Event. As far as CAS Mode, try using it from the mirror, sometimes it resets a few things when you get back to Live Mode (like the mail carrier or position of mail carrier).
I really hope one of these suggestions helps! Also, I hope Newsletter and mailbox issues are patched out.

@Queenbernoski1it's been reported by many players and EA are aware of it so hopefully they will present a solution to affected players soon. I'd keep track of the bug reports for up to date information.
It shouldn't affect the rest of your game, mine is fine. There's no corruption.
I'm making sure I don't play the event on a lot with any lot challenges or while any calendar events are running. That was what caused my problem, there were 2 events going on and the Reaper Event wouldn't start properly.

Edit: so I switched to a different household in the middle of the final week of the event so I'd need to re-request the newsletter so I could get an image of the message this time, see attached. If I'm remembering right I got this but then I also needed to expedite delivery. This time I didn't as it arrived quickly.

I must admit I'm a bit disappointed with the final rewards. I do love the Freezer Boney toys though.

  • @simsplayer818 I'm glad to know that's what the prompt to expedite shipping looks like, lol.

I'll load my game up in a second and see what's what since week six came out.

    Thank you again

Edit: Nothing still. I removed all my expansion packs and tried base game, new world and everything. Nada. Still no prompt to expedite or Grim ask for help. I'll keep looking in the bug reports

@Queenbernoski1Expedite delivery is another separate interaction to speed up delivery when waiting for the newsletter but any Grim actions on the mailbox are easy to spot because they have a little Grim on them, like the image. I couldn't get an image of the expedite option because my newsletter arrived straight away this time. This option attached pops up when switching households, or at least it's supposed to. I was trying to break the event to figure it out but typical it worked fine for me. It was actually early this week for me. It immediately puts the full screen panel over my game each Tuesday late afternoon to start the next round of tasks.

Have you tried clearing locally saved data again following the steps in my post #2? Did you unlock the Grimaphone, if you have it, have you tried summoning Grim? Are you playing a lot that has any lot challenges as players have mentioned they can cause an issue.

What if you disconnected your online social features. (See attached) Exit the game and the go back and enable online social features. It's just an idea.

Edit: there's a message from EA on the bug report saying Newsletter bugs should be fixed now by a small update. But I haven't seen patch notes posted yet, just a few players saying it's still not working.
