Re: [NEEDS SAVES] Sims 4: Crashing (console player)

Hey

my game has been crash constantly when I play it on my Xbox. It started a few weeks ago. I’ve restarted my console multiple times, cleared the cache multiple times, and cleared up space on the console. There are no error codes or anything that show up it just crashes and goes to the Xbox home page. Can anyone help? I would like to not have it crash every hour.

@Diamanishia and @Abbymay2000 I had a real problem with this on more than one Xbox console, I couldn't play Sims 4 for a while at the end of last year on Xbox Series S it crashed every time I tried to play.

But I started managing my game and my saves differently and it's really helped to stop crashing and help with lagging too. It might help you as well, particularly if you have a lot of households, gallery and library items, saves, etc.

🔸Biggest thing is to empty all Sims/Household storage in Build and Live Mode, even fridges. Go back to previous households and clear items in their inventories if you weren't already doing this. As inventories get full it causes problems with performance.

🔸 Carefully manage your Sims/households in Other Households and regularly delete unnecessary random NPCs. I keep it between 80 - 100 in Other Households and I go through them about once a week.

🔸 I keep a check on library storage and clear anything I don't need. Mine is mostly empty except for about a dozen saved things.

It's such a big game and the more content the more it risks crashing so if you can cut down on anything that you don't actually need to store it can really help.

I also only run 2 save games and one is a backup (I don't know about PS as I stopped with PS3 so it's been a while).

I chose to start a brand new game for mine in January but that's not necessarily needed. It was my choice to wipe everything and start fresh because I couldn't play at all. But that was drastic and I wouldn't recommend that to another player.

I eventually upgraded to Xbox Series X about 6 months later but I'd already calmed the crashing and lagging on the smaller console with careful game management.

I hope something here helps! Good luck.

I came here to see if anyone else is having this issue, as I am also having this issue. Mine seems to have started after the last update. My saved games previous to that work fine. But I started a new one after and no matter what I try, outside of uninstalling everything completely, nothing fixes it.

I did the complete start over this last week, going from about 14-15 Played Households to 3.  I also went from having about 6-7 saves to just 2 (rotating between so that each is a back-up of the other).  The change was DRASTIC.  I haven't crashed since I did this (I was crashing about 50-60% of the time that it would change from one lot to another or when first loading into any lot to start playing) and have played quite a bit in the last week.  It also all but erased the lag.

While this was definitely effective and doing a weekly maintenance to "Other Households" and inventories is a good idea to keep up with this, I still consider it a shame that this is what it takes to be able to play The Sims on a console.  I'm sure that a large part of it has to do with limitations on the hardware of the console, but it would be nice for EA/Maxis to, at the very least, more properly address this.  It feels like they mostly ignore it, beyond saying 'Hey, you should just do less with the game and use fewer features'.  Even if there is little they can do to fix this, they could at least say so.

For now, at least I am able to get something out of the game and back to having fun again.  It just sucks that I have to limit myself in what I should be able to do.

It’s still crashing after trying these things. I can’t even leave build mode, cas, manage worlds, or even save half the time with out is crashing. I don’t know what to do anymore @simsplayer818

@Abbymay2000 I'm so sorry this is happening for you, I've been there. I reached out to Microsoft Support and had a really good chat with them. They do return calls and their advisors are honest and approachable. That would be my next step in this situation. I was lucky to get a callback from one advisor who knew a lot about the Sims and he was really generous with his time.

If you haven't done this before just search Xbox Support on a separate device and this will take you to the site, Sign in (with the same info/password you sign in with on your Xbox/Store) and go to Contact Us at the bottom of the page. I add an image of the help page that pops up. It helps to be able to tell them the age of the console and how many other games are on it along with how much memory is available. I had to have my console logged in too as they asked me questions about it.

I hope they help you as much as they helped me. I asked about adding memory upgrades to mine and they were honest and told me not to waste my money, so I knew I wasn't just getting a sales pitch.

    Good luck.
