I've experienced this issue as well but withe the sports career bodybuilder/footballer? Seems to be a new issue though, I saved when the box prompted me to select a career path and reloaded, when i load it just chose a random option. To clarify the tick doesn't appear for me either therefore i wasn't able to select a path.
I'll have to check it out when I get a sim into a new career path. (that'll take awhile though so hopefully a patch will be released by then.) One really bad thing about console is we don't usually get any quick fix patches like on pc.. and since bug reports will just trickle in since it takes more time for players to experience the same stuff and not everyone will be buying the same packs or experiencing the same game. .. it's going to be a crapshoot as to what gets reported and fixed.
