Lost all content after updating

Hello. I updated my Sims 4 through the EA app today, and I lost all of my content and there is nothing in my Gallery. None of the households, lots, packs show up when I launch the game. I don't even have the option to click "Load Game" on the Main Menu. For reference, I do not have any mods.

I've tried absolutely everything I could find on previous forums, etc. I can see the 'saves' folder in Finder, but there are no files inside it. I tried re-downloading the EA app, repairing the game, nothing has worked. I tried giving full disk access to the EA app in my Mac System Settings Privacy and Security. I even tried inputting this command: -type f -name "*Slot_*" 2>/dev/null into Terminal.

If you have anything else I can try, please please please let me know. I lost over 700 hours of content.

gabz1014 Thanks and yes very helpful.

You have an Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 folder on your desktop. The game will not load any data from here as the Electronic Arts folder needs to be in the Documents folder for the game to read it and load your user data. Does this Sims 4 folder contain all your saves, Tray, and other user data?

You also have an Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 folder in Documents. The game will have created this because it could not find the user data folder when launching so created a new one. This is where all your saves, Tray and other user data needs to be.

In short, it looks like you have moved the Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 folder from Documents to the Desktop at some point.

  • Bluebellflora  these are the results from that one:

    MacBook-Air-401:~ myname$ find / -type d -name "*The Sims 4*" 2>/dev/null

    /Library/Application Support/Electronic Arts/EA app/InstallData/The Sims 4

    /System/Volumes/Data/Library/Application Support/Electronic Arts/EA app/InstallData/The Sims 4

    /System/Volumes/Data/Users/myname/Desktop/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4

    /System/Volumes/Data/Users/myname/Applications/The Sims 4 Packs

    /System/Volumes/Data/Users/myname/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4

    /System/Volumes/Data/Applications/EA Games/The Sims 4 Packs

    /System/Volumes/Data/Applications/EA Games/The Sims 4.app

    /Users/myname/Desktop/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4

    /Users/myname/Applications/The Sims 4 Packs

    /Users/myname/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4

    /Applications/EA Games/The Sims 4 Packs

    /Applications/EA Games/The Sims 4.app

    MacBook-Air-401:~ myname$

Anything here look promising? Thanks for your help, btw :)

gabz1014 no results? That was searching just for save files which apparently you don't have. Let's try a broader search for Sims 4 content:

    find / -type d -name "*The Sims 4*" 2>/dev/null

  • Bluebellflorathese are the results:

    MacBook-Air-401:~ myname$ find / -type f -name "*Slot_*" 2>/dev/null

    MacBook-Air-401:~ myname$

    MacBook-Air-401:~ myname$ find / -type f -name "*Slot_*" 2>/dev/null

    MacBook-Air-401:~ myname$

  • gabz1014 Your command is incorrect. It should be:

    find / -type f -name "*Slot_*" 2>/dev/null

That command will take a while to run so let it do its thing. Once the command prompt reappears the search is complete. Please copy/paste the results here.

  • This is exactly what happened to me today. I tried to get official support and they are just walking me in circles.
