Could you both trash the Options.ini file in your Sims 4 folder and see how the game performs? This will reset it back to default settings. If it plays as you would expect then you can try upping the settings incrementally until you're happy with the graphics and gameplay. - candiecoatediv7 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Bluebellflora I will definitely check once I get home. I hope it helps. I was so sad yesterday trying to play.

@Bluebellflora okay I moved the folder to the trash. Played with the setting and it seems to be just CAS that is affected.
- @candiecoatediv
Thanks 🙂
Interesting that it's now just affecting CAS. Any CC in CAS? Trash the localthumbcache.package file in the Sims 4 folder are moving out the Mods folder and see how CAS then behaves. - candiecoatediv7 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Bluebellflora Yes. But once I deleted the options folder I removed my mods folder started the game and it’s still laggy in CAS. I played with the setting as suggested. Before the update I had everything set to high with exception of edge smoothing this was set to medium. When I removed the options folder and played with the settings. I notice the lag when I zoom out in CAS to change clothing etc. when I’m zoomed in for face and head details it’s unnoticeable. When I zoom out the “animation” of the sim is very slow in addition to the voice not in sync with the sim. But when I zoom it it’s fine. I’ve ran the game with my settings that I had before the update and I haven’t noticed any lag but I’ve only done a few tasks like watch tv, mix drinks, walk around and so far I haven’t Noticed lag. Only in CAS. I’m at a dental conference for most of the day but when I get to my hotel room I’ll delete the options folder again and the local thumb cache as well and see if that works.
I finally recently updated my Sims game for the last couple of patches and I booted up the game and CAS is so extremely laggy, its unplayable and nearly gamebreaking. And it really sucks because I was about to buy the two most recent packs that have came out and now I can't.
Here are my specs for my computer :
macOS Mojave
Version 10.14.6
iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013)
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB
I have all the packs, minus the most recent last two as of August, 17th 2019. My graphics in game are all set to the highest because my computer runs smoothly and perfectly fine. I do use mods/cc, but when I turned the game on for the first time after updating it I took my mods folder out.
I hope this gets fixed asap because EA always puts Macs bugs on the back burner and focuses more on PC. If this was a PC bug it would have been fixed the same week the bug was found, but instead this bug is going to be an issue for at least a year before its fixed.

@iimlana With updates the Mod/cc has been disabled. All you have to do is go to your settings in game and re-enable it. As for the lag....it’s definitely frustrating. I’m not a computer expert but I was able to play perfectly fine with just a 4gb then with the addition of two large pack purchases (cats and dogs and seasons) I started to have issues and upped my memory to 16gb. So in my opinion this lag shouldn’t be an issue. I was able to get it to barely noticeable with lowering my edge smoothing to medium. Hope this helps.
- @candiecoatediv I turned my edge smoothing to from high to medium just now and my CAS works perfectly fine like it did a couple of months ago. And I checked it with mods too!
I haven’t checked the live gameplay yet, but I wonder if the gameplay is laggy with some people if changing it to medium would help.
Or if gameplay isn’t affected if you can just switch to high edge smoothing so you don’t have to deal with lower graphic settings while playing. - candiecoatediv6 years agoSeasoned Ace
@iimlana I’m glad it helped!! I have never noticed an issue with gameplay. Only CAS has been the issue for most of us.
- @iimlana
Having edge smoothing on high is going to be hampered by an integrated Intel chip as it doesn't have the power a dedicated NVIDIA or AMD GPU has. Interesting that your CAS lag has improved.
@candiecoatediv
Have you updated to 10.14.6 yet? Just wondering whether that has helped iimlana. - candiecoatediv6 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Bluebellflora I have done an update. Lowering edge smoothing made a difference for me prior to the two most recent updates that’s why I suggested it. If I were to adjust the edge smoothing back to high and I see lag, what hardware or specs (not sure if that’s the correct terms) could be causing this issue? As mentioned previously, I was able to play with all gameplay graphics on high before the update either in June.
- @candiecoatediv
I think at this point Apple probably need to release a driver update for the Intel chip, that's why I wondered about the update to 10.14.6. You could try a reinstall of the OS over the top of your existing installation just to repair and replace any corrupted files, permissions, links. - candiecoatediv6 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Bluebellflora I’ve searched online to find Intel a graphics 4000 driver updates and I keep getting taken to apples website to update the software which only shows how to update the iOS. Is there somewhere else I can check to see if there is an update for the intel graphics? I’ve checked the Intel site and I only see update for Windows OS.
Side question, how do I do a reinstall of the OS?
Update: I reached out to the apple community (let’s just say not as helpful and extremely condescending) only to be told that a software update, updates all drivers and that the chip couldn’t possibly be the issue and that I shouldn’t listen or take recommendations from anyone outside of Apple. Rude!! Omg?! I will never go there again.
- @candiecoatediv
Oh dear.... but they probably have no idea about the game and how taxing it is.
Yes, Apple do update drivers through OS updates but are notorious for not updating graphics drivers. There's a reason why some of us with NVIDIA cards used to update manually with the betas from NVIDIA, the difference it made in game performance was incredible. Sadly this isn't possible with the AMD cards or the integrated Intel chips so no, you won't find updates anywhere.
To reinstall the OS just download it from the Mac App Store and follow the installation instructions. Make sure you backup your Mac beforehand as a precaution. I'm not promising it will fix it but it's worth a try 🙂 - @Bluebellflora I don’t know if this is totally relevant to the situation, but like I said earlier that with edge smoothing being on medium my CAS works perfectly fine. But that’s only when I do a ‘new game’.
If I’m already in a world and I edit my sim the CAS is laggy but it’s barely, it’s not as bad like it would be with edge smoothing being on high. It’s just noticeable, but doing a quick outfit change or edit it’s bearable.
I just purchased Island Living and Moschino Stuff, so I’m not sure if Island Living caused my in game CAS to be laggy or if it was already like that because I never checked before hand. Anyone know if the lag is fixed with today’s patch? Currently not home😩
Never mind, I don’t see it in the patch notes. 🙄🙄

I’m not sure if it’s updated after today’s patch. I ended up switching over to Windows. I would ( @Bluebellflora correct me if I’m wrong) go in update your game and clear out any cache files. Then open and see if you notice a difference.
- @iimlana
I don't think it is a specific issue that can be fixed, more a mixture of things such as low specs, lots of installed packs, larges save files, CC, stuff like that ☹️ - @Bluebellflora They said they were able to see the issue on their side, it’s just weird that it works perfectly fine with all the settings on high, no issues before the update and all of a sudden there’s lag issues.
- candiecoatediv6 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Bluebellflora It’s a few pages back #55 @Bluru21 said they were able to replicate the lag.
- @Bluebellflora Yeah they said they were able to reproduce the issue on their end. ☹️
