- @Bluebellflora Thanks for this! Unfortunately it didn't solve my problem, although the game has now become completely un-playable for me. It gets stuck on the selected within the first minute. Does anybody else have this problem as well?
I currently have the same problem. Totally unplayable. tried all of the normal fixes and it has not changed anything.
Could you send EA your save? There’s a link in the solution explaining how to do it.
Did you try again with a new Sims 4 folder after disabling sound?
- @Bluebellflora Will do! Thanks for the info and suggestions :-)
@Bluebellflora
Hello, thanks for your help. I have a feeling turning off the sound helped.Edit: I have now downloaded the new pack "Snowy Escape". I played for 1 hour, both in live mode and in CAS. The game did NOT crash! THANK YOU ❤️

Do we know what happens when they update to fix the issue after enabling no sound? Like will we have to go back in and enable sound again after the update or will that change automatically?
Also, do we need to do this workaround every time before playing or just once??
Thanks! - @Bluebellflora OK so I tried a new Sim folder, no sound and played with two different households (1 sim and 8 sims) for around 1 hour each. I had no problems with the game crashing or freezing, although in my original game the freezing came after two human days of playing. The problem with sims not ageing up with the birthday cake persisted for one of the 5 sims of different ages I tried it with.

Good point! I've updated my post and added that removing the command re-enables the sound 🙂 Yes. I did try the audio workaround. It worked for about 20 minutes, (which is longer than it did before) but it eventually froze instead of crashed. It would not unfreeze so I had to force quit the application.
@sweettweetyb13 I have that problem, too. Try running on low-medium settings with extras turned off. That's a different bug... that's been plaguing me for a LONG time. But it stopped freezing after I moved to low-medium default settings.
- @RJBla Tried this, my settings were on low before. Tried low-medium too to see if it would change anything. It's still doing the things where the sims freeze and the day continues/ it won't pause.
I'm on a 2020 MacBook Air and also had all the crashing happen, anywhere from five to 30 minutes of game play. I've added in the -nosound stuff and managed to play a solid two hours (frantically saving every couple of minutes) without any freezing or crashing. All my settings are on low graphics, etc. I have all the packs and expansions and am even trying it out with my mods and CC in it, and it's still working! Fingers crossed it'll stay that way until they come out with a fix.
- @sweettweetyb13 Update: After my second new game and doing all of the things suggested. I have been able to play for the last two hours without freezing or crashing. Hopefully, it stays this way.
Update: I have been playing for 7 hours on ultra with extras, online is on.
Life is good. I have been playing for 7 hours.
(I got a half day off work today.)
But 7 hours!! without a crash!!- @RJBlain I just tried and mine's still crashing. What exactly did you do?

So today the game decided to once I moved my sims to the new world. It would act like everything was good (I have no sound on fully) then it wouldn’t let me click to a new sim. And then would let me do everything else but once it was paused I couldn’t get it to unpause. Then it will continuously load and never stop. Forcing me to quit the game. I thought I would share what’s happening to me because maybe it will help contribute to the fix. But I can’t wait For the new patch because I want to be able to enjoy this amazing expansion pack and the new update
- @sweettweetyb13 My game also decided to freeze instead of crash after I tried the -nosound workaround. Yesterday I played with nosound just fine, but today it froze for the first time during this whole debacle instead of crashing. I had to also force quit.
I was initially only having the freezing issue (sims moving but can't click etc.), but thought I'd try the -nosound workaround anyway... Well, about 7 minutes into playing (live mode) it crashed so hard that my laptop restarted. Wouldn't really call that an improvement, so bring on the patch, I guess?
