- No it's okay I will take any help I can get and you were really helpful yesterday.
- Actually I put the empty Sims 4 folders in the trash. And the original one, I put inside a sims 4 user data folder that I was supposed to create. I also have another sims 4 folder that is all empty except for the fact that it has saves in it which is strange. So, I don't know what to do with that folder.
@tinateen122 You did that right. When I said the "master folder," I meant the one that you were told to create ("Sims 4 User Data"). Inside that folder, you have some subfolders labeled "Sims 4 data 1," "Sims 4 data 2," etc., right? Well, make one more folder next to these, label it "Sims 4 data 3" or whatever the next number is. Place the TS4 folder that is empty other than a few saves inside this last folder that you just created.
- Yes, I have that all right. The sims 4 data 1, I have my original photo and saves. in my sims 4 data 2, I have what I thought was my sisters folder, but i figured out it was mine. This folder has more saves and I have no ides how or why they ended up in a different folder. In the sims 4 data 3, I have some random music its literally one one tab with music so I don't think i really need it. Now that I have everything like that, what should I do with my other saves and the music? Also, should I leave the other folders-cache, videos, screenshots, mods, etc, on my desktop for now? I don't understand how the game will load without my cache and tray folders and all that stuff
@tinateen122 All that other stuff can go in another subfolder, let's say "Sims 4 data 4," for now. We can sort through it later. But make sure you're preserving any saves you find sitting on the desktop. Just dump them in this last folder for now. The idea is to put everything you want to keep into the "Sims 4 User Data" folder, where it will sit until needed.
The empty TS4 game folders can go in the trash. When you're sure there's nothing in the trash that you'd like to keep, you can empty it.
- Okay so I put all of the extra stuff (cache, try, videos, mods) into another folder labeled sims 4 data 4. I have 2 empty electronic arts folders. Should I put those in the trash or the sims 4 data 4 folder? They're both completely empty.
@tinateen122 If they're empty, they can go in the trash.
Okay I put them in trash. In some of my subfolders I have empty cache and tray folders. Should I get rid of those? I did common + i and it says they were created yesterday.
- Not just cache and tray folders- the others ones too.
@tinateen122 Leave those alone for now. They can just sit in their subfolders in the Sims 4 User Data folder on your desktop. They can't interfere from there.
- Okay so now what? I think I am supposed to restart my computer and load my game again something like that?
@tinateen122 Yes, exactly. First, make sure that there's nothing inside your Electronic Arts folder in Documents. Then you can restart your computer, then launch the game. Don't move anything around after you restart.
- Okay there is nothing inside my electronic arts folder. After I restart it and launch the game, what am I supposed to see exactly?
@tinateen122 When you relaunch, the game will look like it's brand-new. There won't be any saves, or builds, or cc, or anything you've added to it since you started playing. That's fine—the goal here is to successfully load and play a new game. So create a sim or family (no need to spend much time getting things right; you'll eventually be deleting everything) and move them into a house. Play for long enough that you know the game is working correctly. Save, then quit.
Once you're out of the game, look inside Documents\Electronic Arts. You should see a new TS4 folder. Don't touch anything yet, just make sure it's there, and post back.
- Okay so I saved everything and exited. When I went to my document, it made a new electronic arts folder even though I had one there already. Was that supposed to happen?
@tinateen122 Are there now two folders labeled Electronic Arts? Which one has a TS4 folder in it? And I hope the other one is empty. If it is, you can trash the empty EA folder and keep the new one.
- there are 2 folders labeled electronic arts. one is empty and one has sims 4 and the rest in it. i decided to go back on the game and save it again to see if it created another folder and it didn’t which is good. now what ??
- also the quality of my sims game is so weird it kinda of reminds me of sims 3 for some reason. also the sims move around kind of slow. can i just fix that in settings? not sure why things would change like that though.
@tinateen122 Now you need to get rid of the EA folder that's empty. So there will be only one Electronic Arts folder within Documents. And just to check, when you relaunched the game, did the new save that you'd just made appear for you to load? Did it load properly? Please make sure. You don't have to play it again, once you know it's loaded properly.
- Okay I got rid of the EA folder and the game loaded properly.
- Now what do I do next?
@tinateen122 Including the save? Good. You have the basic setup you need.
Now, go into the new TS4 folder that you've been using, and remove the entire saves folder. Not the one save you just created, but the whole folder. You can put it in the trash, but you don't have to empty the trash just yet. Go into your Sims 4 User Data folder on your desktop, into Sims 4 data 1. Inside, there's your original TS4 folder, right? And inside are your saves, or at least most of them? Drag the entire Saves folder (not the individual saves, the whole folder) into the new TS4 folder, the one in Documents. It should not be in any subfolder within TS4. So the path that you see when you highlight the saves folder you just moved (remember command-i that Bluebellflora explained) should read:
Macintosh HD>Users>(your name)>Documents>Electronic Arts>The Sims 4
If this is what you see, and you can post a screenshot if you'd like, then you're ready to launch the game again. You should see your old saves listed. Test one of them to find out whether you can load and play it properly, then post back.
- Yes, inside the sims 4 data 1 folder is my saves. my mod folder is also in there.
:
Here is my saves file when I highlighted it. Looks right to me> Now, do I have to restart my mac again to get my old households?
