Re: macOS thread - updated to include 10.15 Catalina

Hello to my fellow Simmers. I am having an unusual problem. I updated to Mojave 10.14.1 on a 2017 13" Macbook Pro with a Trackpad. My gameplay was working fine. However, I have upgraded to a 27" iMac and Sims 4 will not load into gameplay.

I tried Sims 3 and although I did receive a dialog stating that my video card was not recognized, I was able to start gameplay into Sims 3. I didn't do too much, as I have gotten much used to Sims 4.

I had restored the new Mac from my previous Macbook so I didn't need to install anything - could this be an issue? When I first launched Origin it required an update and before starting Sims 4, that also required an update. The first time I tried loading Sims 4 I received a dialog stating that Sims 4 was not optimized... that dialog is no longer coming up. Initially the main game options menu worked, but now it comes up blank. My previous saved game are available under load game and the World menu will come up w/all of my current Sims households, but when I press the Arrow to play, nothing happens. It will only stay on the world menu. If I go to exit, it will crash. Nothing happens when I press on new game. The odd thing is, I clicked on the Arrow itself and although I still was not able to start from the household, I was able to use the destination feature and select my household and the game loaded. I can play, however, the menu to save and exit, etc... doesn't seem to respond. Most of the tabs do not work. I clicked save and exit and it appeared to save, but after that it "unexpectedly quit".

Here are my mac specs:

iMac (Retina 5k, 27-inch 2017)
3.58 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor
8 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 (Planning on increasing to 16 GB)
Radeon Pro 580 8192 MB Graphics Card

Anyone else having similar issues? Any suggestions on troubleshooting? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My game is working now. I had my settings to ultra and that seemed to be a problem. I had hit reset to default and then restarted my iMac. Setting to High works fine. I did have to move out some of my 2016 CC. Cheers!

    Hello!

I seem to also be having this problem. Whenever I open Sims 4 on my mac, it still loads. If i wait long enough the icon stops bouncing and says application not responding. Not even a black screen. I've tried the solutions in this thread but none have worked. It was working 2 days ago. It told me TS4 was not compatible with my computer. I turned it on again, this time without CC, still did not work. I thought it might have been because I didn't do a system update for a while because I had been avoiding it. I updated my system and now it won't work at all. I even tried all of the things mentioned here in this thread. I don't know what to do ;-; but ever since Mac has been putting out all these updates my game is always having one or another problem and it's getting frustrating with how much money i've put into this. Here are my info on my mac

    Operating System: MacOS Mojave 10.14.2

Processor: 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5

    Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB

    Thank you for any help!

Hi, I have the exact same issue as OP, since the upgrade to Mojave 10.14.2, my game won't work where it worked perfectly fine before. Now the icon just bounces on my deck and that's it. At this point I tried pretty much every solution on threads I saw on here. I have uninstalled than reinstalled Origin, repaired the game, unchecked origin in game, tried without my old sims 4 file and more. It just won't work. I'm sending this message because I have to wait before downgrading Mojave to High Sierra (the only solution I see at this point), but I'd like to try and find an answer before doing so...

@supcap8110  Thanks for providing the information. This thread will be updated with any new developments.

Please edit the screenshot of your computer's specs to remove the serial number—that's not information you want public.

Hi, I changed the image but my post was deleted anyway so I don't know if I should repost it? I really hope I get an answer however...

@supcap8110  I'm not sure what happened to your post.  I didn't move it, and I don't think there are any EA people around right now who would have deleted it outright.  You're welcome to repost, or to edit your newer post instead (click the three dots in the upper right corner of the text field).  If the other post does turn up, I can ask someone from EA to delete it, or just edit out the image link.  Either way works for me.

And of course we'd love to have your other specs.  There are quite a few people experiencing this issue, and more information is always better.

Ok, well I'm reposting it here then. Same problem as OP with Mojave 10.14.2: the icon bounces on the deck but the game won't start. I tried everything I saw on threads on here but nothing works. Before downgrading my OS I still want to find a better solution so I'm asking for help... Oh and here are my specs:

@supcap8110  Thanks again for the info.  It would be helpful if you could quickly list the "everything" that you've tried; I think you mentioned that you'd disabled Origin in-game and removed your TS4 game folder from Documents?  Some people say they've "tried everything" and haven't, although it sounded like you were pretty thorough.  Otherwise, you might receive suggestions for workarounds that you've already tried.

ok! Here is what I tried:

    - Uninstalling Origin and reinstalling Origin

    - Repaired Origin

    - Repaired the Sims 4 in Origins

    - Unchecked the Origin in game option

    - Tried opening the game with a new/empty Sims 4 folder

    - Tried opening the game with a new/empty mods folder

    - Reinstall the game (by emptying the packages folder in the finder… I'm not entirely sure if that's exactly what I did as I just followed the thread's instructions)

    - Launching the game without using Origins

    And I believe that's it...
