Sims 4 flickers and crashes when leaving home lot

Can anyone PLEASE help me 😃 šŸ™

The issue I’m having on the Sims 4 (Mac) is that it’s playing fine when I’m on my home lot, and I could play for a few hours with no interruptions. Then as soon as I travel anywhere - or go outside my home it crashes. The screen flickers and jumps around and eventually I have to quit.

I’ve made sure everything is up to date, I’ve repair the game through EA app and I’ve deleted both EA cache and game cache. I play with no mods or CC - and have deleted all the files in those folders (although there was only 1 ā€œresourceā€ file in the mods folder).

The specs of the Mac I play are (see attachments)

MacOS Catalina version 10.15.7

iMac (Late 2012)
Processor: 3.1 GHz Quad-core intel core i7
memory: 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3

So one of the issues I’ve got with some of the solutions I have read through, is that I can’t upgrade to Sequoia OS as my Mac keeps telling me the system is up to date, on Catalina. Maybe my Mac is too old? šŸ¤”

I also read that it could be from a new update in Jan; that changed some of the graphics settings. I’m happy to have a play around with this, but have no idea how/or what to do!

Has anyone experienced thIs? And most importantly, solved it? Thank you so much ā˜ŗļø

  • Hello ,Bluebellflora

I’ve replied to this thread (and to you directly) because the issue that ncsalley was having is a very similar issue to the one I’m having. I’m not sure if I need to start a new discussion - I’m new to this 😃

Ive recently started playing the Sims 4 again after a very long break. The specs of the Mac I play are:

    MacOS Catalina version 10.15.7

    iMac (Late 2012)
    Processor: 3.1 GHz Quad-core intel core i7
    memory: 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3

So one of the issues I’ve got with the solution you provided (which is very comprehensive!) is that I can’t upgrade to Sequoia as my Mac keeps telling me the system is up to date.
