So, I know I'm super late.... but I've been having this same problem for a week now.
I just found a way to fix it and not lose any of your data! So for future reference....
1) go to your finder and your document. There should be a folder labeled Electronic Arts.
2) go in that folder and find your folder labeled Sims 4. Inside this folder you'll find your mods, downloads, cache, and another folder labeled saves.
3) drag the entire electronic arts folder to your trash.
4) Now in your finder that folder should have been replaced with another, go in to where you find the Sims 4 folder in your finder
5) Now open your trash and go into where you find the saves folder again
6) Lastly, drag your saves folder from the trash to replace the one in your new Sims 4 folder.
You have now fixed the problem AND kept all your data.
Omg this worked!! THANK YOU SO MUCH
- Bluebellflora6 years agoHero+PLEASE don't drag your Electronic Arts folders to the trash! If you have other EA games installed the data will be in that folder too. You can simply drag it to the desktop. The trash is for just that, trash.

This fixed the error, but it deleted all my households and everything I had on the game...maybe not a final solution.

Ok.
1. Move the Electronics Arts folder found in Documents to the Desktop.
2. Start The Sims
3. Exit The Sims
4. A new Electronics Arts folder will have been created in Documents.
4. Move everything inside the old EA folder on the Desktop into the new Electronics Arts. If it asks Replace? Yes.
5. Start The Sims.
6. If The Sims still won't start? Move just the The Sims 4 folder to the Desktop.
7. Start the game.
8. Exit the game
9. A new The Sims 4 folder will have been created.
10. Open the old TS4 on the Desktop and move your saves, screenshots, Tray and the Options.ini file into to new The Sims 4 folder. If you have mods or videos move those, too. Replace? Yes.
You should now be good to go.
DO NOT trash anything until you a certain everything is working.
It maybe that all you need to do is a steps 6 thru 10. Moving the EA folder may not be necessary. But that's where I started.
Also. Always backup everything, before you do anything. MacOS comes with Time Machine. It's easy to set up. Easy to use. It's not perfect, but it's better than doing nothing.
