Black Screen When Loading Game, PC Needs Restart

Yesterday night, I opened my game and when it loaded a black screen showed up, only revealing an image when pressing the enter key and needing a restart. It happens with or without mods, I have deleted the game cache and the EA App Cache, also repaired the game. All my mods are updated. This problem happens over and over again.

Hey so, while I was waiting for your answer my boyfriend and I decided to try a few things. It is my boyfriend’s laptop I play in, so he does have many other demanding games installed that we tested and everything seemed to be working properly, but then we tried one more time on The Sims and the issue happened again. After that, our laptop started crashing for almost anything. We tried once again to uninstall the game and install it again, and while it was downloading, the laptop crashed and it kept crashing over and over again, even while restarting. The laptop will work just fine as long as it doesn’t open anything EA related and that is definitely the craziest bug I have ever seen. Do you happen to know something about this? I’m afraid that we will have to reinstall Windows and lose all of our information.

  • oceannetavarez  Do you play other demanding games on this laptop?  I'm wondering whether it works outside Sims 4.  Part of the reason I ask is that there are no new Windows errors in your newer dxdiag, which means either the issue that caused this most recent black screen didn't get recorded, or it's not a Windows error at all.  That in turn could mean a hardware issue, although it's certainly not definitive.

At any rate, if you do have another reasonably-demanding game to test, please do so.  If you don't, try the free 3DMark demo from Steam.  Run Time Spy a few times in a row, or until your computer crashes, and let me know what you see.

Another update: I just tried running my game without the mains The Sims 4 folder. I moved it to my desktop and started the game, everything was fine until I clicked on a house to start playing on live mode and then my laptop freezed again, got a black screen and had to restart my laptop. I even had to wait for like 15 minutes because the laptop wasn’t even turning on.

  • oceannetavarez  Your dxdiag lists a couple of crashes of the graphics driver, or one of them at least.  You can try updating to the newest Nvidia driver:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/results/253163/

If that doesn't help, do a clean uninstall of the driver and reinstall it, as described here:

winklermia03  Then I'd like a dxdiag from you too.

This has been happening to me now for the past month. I've deleted all my mods, cleared my cache, undownloaded and redownloaded the game, repaired the game. I've literally done everything that I can find online and my screen still just loads black, white, or the blue that appears on the start up page. I just want to play the sims man
