Cannot fix error Code: 0e6d1221:1df4e8dc:80010000:00000000

error code: 0e6d1221:1df4e8dc:80010000:00000000
I'm getting this error with and without mods. It happened randomly a few days ago and I can't play my game. Things I've tried from support server suggestions:
- repairing the game (it did nothing at all)
- reinstalling the game (did nothing)
- disabling origin ingame (it did nothing)
- adding mods back in slowly (it launched, but the next time I got the error again)
- removing options.ini (the game launched but continuously froze on the loading screen)
- updating my graphics drivers (this did nothing)
- folder refresh, where I generated a brand-new Sims 4 folder (the error code still occurred, even with no mods and essentially factory settings on the game)

I am on a RTX 3070ti graphics card and am running the latest version of Windows 11, I have checked in NVIDIA control panel that this is what Sims 4 is using. I'm in desperate need of help because I feel like I've tried everything I can think of and nothing will work so I can play my game.
I have ran sfc /scannow and it found nothing wrong. I have also attached my Dx.Diag

  • @ladyboxx  Thanks for doing all that testing and for providing the dxdiag, which makes things a lot easier for me.  For future reference, it's always best to run DISM before sfc because the latter draws on info that the former verifies as intact.  A clean bill of health from sfc doesn't necessarily mean anything without DISM restoring first.

Windows doesn't always respect the choice of graphics card set in the Nvidia Control Panel.  So please force Windows to use your 3070.  Hit Windows key-i, select System > Display > Graphics settings, click Browse, find TS4_x64.exe on the list, choose the high-performance option, and save.  Then test.

Please also make sure the EA app in-game overlay is still disabled—your dxdiag shows the overlay crashing repeatedly and recently.  If it is disabled, please uninstall the EA App with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine), and download a fresh copy of the installer to use.  Restart after installing, then disable the overlay and all notifications within the App.

The EA in-game overlay is disabled same with notifications, and the Nvidia Control Panel and Windows display settings is already set to high performance nvidia for the sims 4

edit: I have followed your instructions with uninstalling the EA App with Revo, reinstalling, restarting, and disabling notifications and the ingame overlay. The Sims 4 is launching and loading, but I don't consider that to mean much of anything, because yesterday after I reinstalled the latest graphics drivers a second time trying to fix this issue the Sims 4 launched successfully 3 times in a row and I was able to play, before the error came back again shortly after. I don't know what is going on because rarely it will launch and run fine, sometimes it throws this error, and sometimes it launches but freezes on the loading screen.

edit 2: As I suspected, the error is back. I don't think I can even fix what is wrong anymore.

@ladyboxx  When the error reappeared the most recent time, had you added mods or custom content back to the user folder?  If so, does it help to remove them?

Please also let me know what antivirus you use and whether it helps to set exceptions for Sims 4 and the EA App.  You may need to remove the Electronic Arts folder from Documents and (temporarily) start over after setting the exceptions: sometimes an antivirus has changed permissions on a folder and won't revert the settings just because you've now exempted whatever it was flagging in the first place.

There were no mods in my game folder in the most recent time, no. There have also been previous times in the last few days where the error has happened with a brand new Sims 4 folder and no mods. I use the default Windows microsoft defender antivirus since I can't afford any of the good paid ones, but it has never given me any virus warnings and I only download mods from tumblr, patreon or tsr. Hadn't even downloaded any new cc in weeks when this error randomly began.
I'll try setting EA and the sims 4 as exceptions with that tmr and generating a new electronic arts folder and see how it goes, I don't understand why the windows antivirus would randomly change permissions on those folders though if it even did

@ladyboxx  Windows Defender is generally fine, both in terms of protection and in allowing the apps you'd actually want to use.  But Controlled Folder Access can act up sometimes.  In case you haven't found the relevant settings, here's a good guide:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/03/windows-10-defender-controlled-folder-access.html

If that doesn't help, please create a new admin Windows account.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account.  You'll be able to (try to) launch Sims 4 without reinstalling anything; let me know how it goes.

Tried that today, as well as doing a clean reinstall of my drivers with NVIDIA's tool which didn't get rid of the error. Then I used the -w command to force the game to launch in windowed mode. Without my mods, it launches fine, but even when I remove the command line the settings won't let me change to fullscreen saying "unable to change display settings, reverting to previous settings", I even tried alt+enter. With mods, it becomes nonresponsive on the loading screen. So then I used -f to force the game into fullscreen, it launched so I added one subfolder of my mods in that I know for a fact the game launched fine with the other day when I was slowly readding the mods in, and it gave me the error again even when I removed the mods until I deleted thumbnail.cache then it launched again, but the next time I got the error back.

Game launched fine the three times I tried on a local administrator account so problem must be connected to my account but I don't understand how to fix this. I think I've tried everything I can now, and all my other games work fine. I don't know what is causing this error and I honestly don't even think I'll be able to play the game again.

@ladyboxx  The easiest path may be to play in the new admin Windows account.  I'm not saying your current account is unfixable, only that it might take more effort to find the problem than is worth it to you.  And I'm not sure I'll be able to figure it out, although I'll keep trying as long as you're interested.

For the new account, whether you want to use it permanently or only until you find the problem in the old account, you can transfer your saves and other user data easily enough.  Open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, double-click the C drive, and open Users > Public.  This folder is accessible from any account on the computer.  While in the old account, drop your saves and anything else you'd like to use into this folder, then grab the files once you're back in the new account.

Keep in mind that some of your mods and custom content may be broken, or if none of them are now, that will probably change after the new patch drops in a few hours.  So you may want to save yourself some time and only test the files after the patch, or play without mods and cc until your favorite creators release updates.

Alright, I'd like to play on my regular windows account if possible but I suppose I'll have to make do unless I can fix the problem. I'm dreading the new patch ☹️ hoping it doesn't screw things up worse than they are

edit: ok after I went back on my regular account from local to check if the game would launch, it did but all my ingame settings were reset so I fixed that, and then I did the patch update and slowly added all my mods back in (with the exception of script mods, I'll have to wait for updates), and I would've had to launch the game about 70 times but it worked fine all those times. I'm really hoping the patch somehow fixed my problem and that the error doesn't randomly come back like it did before.

@ladyboxx  The patch itself wouldn't fix the issue, but it may have repaired or replaced a file that was triggering the problem for you.  Whatever the case, the important point is that it's fixed (for now).  If you run into more trouble, please test again in the new Windows account and let me know whether it helps, and we can go from there.

Yeah that might've been the case, but if so I wonder why the clean reinstalls, generating a new folder and repairing the game didn't catch the problem file. Thank you for trying to help me tho
