Cannot launch Sims4, System cannot find file specified

Last night I was playing sims, just as normal and today when I went to launch the game, I was met with "Error, The system cannot find the file specified". A few days ago, I installed a few mods but they weren't accepted by the game so I just ignored them. I tried deleting everything from my mod folder, and nothing works. I can't seem to find anyone with a similar issue to this, any advice on what to do? I'd prefer not to uninstall my game because the progress won't save over unless its in my library.

EDIT: It seems that a ton of people are having the exact same issue. I sat down with a friend for a good couple of hours and tried troubleshooting everything. I uninstalled things, reinstalled things, cleared my cashe, checked on any bloatware. Nothing fixed it. I ended up just having to uninstall and reinstall it, but it hasn't finished yet. Someone else said they did this, but they ended up having the same issue a few days later.

hello! feeling quite silly right now, i didnt realise you could repair the game unless it suggested you repair it. when it suggested to repair it yesterday, i just clicked it, i didnt realise you could repair on your own accord. so i suppose to anyone else with this problem, disable your antivirus THEN repair your game.

I solved the problem using Avast. I opened Avast and went to the Protection section and then Quarantine. There, I saw that Avast was blocking the file "ts4_x64.exe", which I believe is the missing file that the app can't find anymore. To fix it, I clicked on the three dots next to the file and selected Restore and Add Exception (remember to add an exception so that Avast won't block the file again). This definitively solved my problem. The reason why repairing the EA app works for a while and then gives you an error again is because Avast keeps blocking the missing file every time it reloads.

I'm a PC player, and i have Avast. If you also have Avast, try this method. (The Sims 4 should work immediately after this, but to be sure, restart your PC before)

you saved my game, THANK YOU SO MUCH. i spent 2 hours trying to figure out what was wrong but nothing seemed to work. you’re a saviour🙏🏻🙏🏻

  • I’ve had this same exact problem from steam Sims 4. Whenever I would click play it would pull up the ‘Can’t find path specified’ so I came here to figure out how to fix it and tried all the things given which none worked.
What did work was me erasing a mistake I had made prior, I’ll elaborate. If you right click the game in your steam library and go to properties, the first tab you start out in (General), the text box under Launch Options should be empty (unless you actually know how to use it). I had accidentally typed a stardew valley mod thing into the sims properties and that messed up where stream was trying to find the file.
AKA if something is in that text box, delete it then try again.
