Solved

Can't go past the loading screen. Unavoidable crash.

For the past month, I've been unable to launch Sims 4 properly, and I can't understand what's wrong with it. I've tried many troubleshooting steps, including:

-Clean reinstall
-Removal of all mods
-Clearing the "The Sims 4" folder in "Documents"
-Removing all saves
-Clearing Cache
-Driver updates
-Running as admin
-Verifying game files (steam/EAapp)
-Running the .exe directly
-dropping files from another pc installation

No matter what I do though, the game has absolutely no way of going past the first screen. It either crashes in a full white/black blinking screen before getting stuck and/or disappearing, or it stops working upon first user input. (mouseclick/keypress.)

PC requirements are not the issue. It worked perfectly fine before.

  • MetalKnight_X  If you have an HP gaming laptop, Victus or Omen, please try these suggestions:

    Game won’t launch | EA Forums - 4992631
Managed to fix my problem where it crashes during launch after update | EA Forums - 4998584

Or put the laptop into night mode before opening the game.

If that doesn't help, or you have a different model computer, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Thank you, the second solution you sent me actually worked. Indeed I had an HP gaming laptop. I appreciate your aid. Though I do wonder what could be the reason for the game not functioning under the Nvidia GPU settings.

  • MetalKnight_X  I'm not sure why either, although some users have said that switching back to the Nvidia GPU works after temporarily using the Intel iGPU.  So it's worth testing that on your end.

If you'd like to test further, I'm happy to make some suggestions.  I don't have an HP gaming laptop, nor do I know anyone with a model new enough to be affected, so I've been relying on other users' reports of what does and doesn't help.  No one so far has been able to pinpoint the exact setting involved, and there might be more than one given that switching to night mode helps some users and not others.
