Constant lags despite high end PC.

Hello,

I am a fan since the beginnig of this franchise, but we had a load of performance issues with the sims 4 that were resolved last year. Now after news EP installed I can say its back. The lags I am experiencing is constant, every couple seconds, there is a big lag, considering I have a high end pc, it should not happen... I would say it started to happen or I guess I noticed it more after Businesses and Hobbies... I play on an old save but thats very annoying when you paid for a good pc and cant even play without lags, bugs fine, this happen, but performance issues are really annoying.

When I move the camera around in the world, it is very easy to see the lags. Its not the same issue, or at least I dont its the same as sims freezing or not responding, more like the game itself does not run well.

It might be separate again, but I wanted to modify some of the premade in the Enchanted Nature EP and I did modify few things, entering CAS through another family with testing cheats on and Cas.fulleditmode on... I did the modification I wanted and then I decided to cancel and my game crashed.

Please sims team consider performance a big issue, as it was amazing the changes made last year and the game was smooth as hell.

Thank you

  • Rabbitypo  Your dxdiag lists a few crashes of the graphics driver, so please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver.  Here's how:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

The fact that the game is smooth in a new save and choppy in an old one can have a number of causes, anything from too many objects on the lot to the green Eco footprint.  The post I linked earlier about changing values in GraphicsRules.sgr can help with the former; for the latter, try disabling the Eco footprint.

If neither helps, move your main household to a new, blank or EA-made lot, and see what happens.  You don't need to save your progress.

Francoisf30  I'm trying to help here.  I could go into the reasons why testing a new save is relevant, and I listed a couple of them above, but the point is that it's important to find out whether the problem is contained to one save or not.  Even if it's a fundamental change in the game, it matters what that change was, where and when it's present, etc.

Your thread was moved out of bugs because performance issues are considered system-side issues until proven otherwise.  Most of them do turn out to be on the system or user side.  Even when they're not, the people who work for EA (I am not one of them) will want to know that the player has eliminated hardware and other software as potential causes before looking into it.

  • Also why my post got put into technical issues/discussion?? It’s certainly due to poor performance of the game, most likely related to to packs… nobody can me too this post… it shouldn’t be here… it needs more attention.

Can’t play right now and test things but there is no reasons to test in new saves when before BH it was perfectly fine and now it’s choppy. old save or not, there haven’t been much changing in my game or added since I haven’t played this game much except sparsely. Unless you means it’s not the old save issue and it still should be fixed for old saves then sure if it can help I will test with a new save at some point. But it will be in a week at least since I can’t at the moment.

My pc is pretty freaking good. I will provide the dxdiag but again I’m away right now. Still no reasons for my beast to not be able to run a game that was performing perfectly one day and then after a release it’s choppy… 🤷‍♂️

Also with that pc I should not have to reduce graphics settings but I’ll check the LOD by curiosity. It’s not a solution thought…

  • I'm also experiencing this issue. The camera is choppy/lagging when I play on my old save, but it's smooth when on a new save. The sims movements are smooth; it's mostly the camera that is extremely choppy when moving around the world. I've tried repairing the game, but there's an issue where I can't repair Enchanted by Nature because I "don't own it" when I do. I cleared the cache, deleted unused Sims from the save file, removed mods, and cleaned out most of the inventories.

This started after I updated the game to the latest patch and downloaded Enchanted by Nature. My game/save ran perfectly smooth right before then. I really hope that this is a fixable issue, for I would hate to have to recreate this save to resolve the poor camera performance.

  • Francoisf30  Please test a new save, with fresh sims and no content from your library or the Gallery, and your Mods folder removed as well.  This will give a reasonably-good baseline for performance.  Even if you'd never play without certain content, please let me know how the game runs in this context.

Please also provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

You can improve performance to some degree, especially when moving the camera, with some .sgr edits.  Please see this post for more information:

The most important value is the LOD distance, as in, when the game switches between different levels of detail.  The higher the values, the further out you have to be before getting a lower LOD, and therefore the less switching, which is the source of drag on performance as far as this part goes.
