sierrien Does no mods mean no custom content either? If not, please test with the entire Mods folder removed. You don't need to save your progress.
If that doesn't help, click Load Game rather than Resume, and try to load a different household within the same save. If that doesn't work either, try a new save.
If the new save is affected, please provide a dxdiag. Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop. From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
If the new save is fine, open Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and delete any lastexception files you see. Try again to load the main household in the main save, and when it doesn't work, look for a new LE. If you find one, open it (Notepad is fine), copy the text, and paste it into a reply here.
