Crash since update 09/18/24

Hello,
Since the last update, my game is unusable.
It crashes after a few minutes of play. I'm angry because everything was working fine until this update.
I've checked my Windows and my NVIDIA card and everything is up to date.
What happened? How is it possible to release such an update?
My game starts, my game loads but after a few minutes everything goes black and it crashes.
I'm waiting for a quick fix, without which I'm definitively giving up on sims 4 and 5, as this is unacceptable.

  • Hello,
Just to let you know, I've found a solution to my problem: I've had to change the “Graphics” setting in the Sims to very high instead of Ultimate since the September 18 update.
This means I don't get any more crashes, but it's not normal because my computer supported the Ultimate option before the update! And EA is still unresponsive to the crashes people are experiencing...

      Hello
I did everything you told me and again a crash (without any mods I specify).
I'm sending you the new log file
I don't know what to do, I think my game is dead :-/

  • Landverhuizer  If you have any files in ConfigOverride, please delete them.

Otherwise, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If you get another crash, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the camera (Insert Media) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • JanieBaer  Are you seeing something like this?

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/PC/Home-Screen-bug-white-and-glitchy/m-p/14066522#M285040

Please let me know either way; and whether it happens in DirectX 9 or 11 mode, or both.  Screenshots would be useful too.

I'd like to see a dxdiag as well.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the camera (Insert Media) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • Missval22  I'm having real trouble replying to you—this site has eaten my first two posts.  What I would like to know first is whether your current crashes are the same as your older ones: screen goes black, fans get noisy, etc.

I'd also like an hwinfo log, which I think is what the site keeps objecting to my posting.  So I'll link a different post where I asked for the same thing and hopefully you'll be able to see it.

Yes, it's the same crash (black screen and spinning fans).
Someone above said that his game has been broken since the July update and it's true that I also noticed a crash when I left the game inactive for a few minutes. So EA had already introduced a big bug in July, but since the September update it's no longer possible to play the game, which crashes systematically.

I'll check your post on hwinfo.log

Out of curiosity, are you an EA developer? Or should I expect that EA won't read anything on the forum and that we'll be left with hundreds of euros invested for nothing.
I gave up on The Sims 3 for the same reason. By dint of updates, they've killed the Sims 3. If this is the case with The Sims 4, I'll never buy The Sims 5.

Ok, soo far, I found, on the EA platform, a Repairing button, by the uninstall.

    Seems to be working.

I did my repair multiple times. It doesn’t do anything

  • Missval22  Do you still get the same kind of crash you described earlier: black screen, fans get very loud?  Or is there a difference?  And does it help to play in windowed mode, or to switch to DirectX 9 mode?  Both are options in the graphics settings.

If those don't make a difference, I'd like to see the results of some hardware monitoring on this computer.  Please download hwinfo (it's free) from here:

    https://www.hwinfo.com/download/

You don't need to install anything; just choose the Portable version, unzip it, and launch it from Downloads or wherever you like.  If you do want the full installer, be sure to click the button for hwinfo itself, not for lansweeper.

Restart your computer, open hwinfo, choose Sensors Only, and click the button that's a sheet of paper with a + to start logging.  Save the log file to your desktop for easy access.  Wait five minutes, then open Sims 4 and play until it or your computer crashes.  Don't alt-tab out of the game or run any other programs, aside from the EA App of course, while you're testing.  When you're done, click the same button to stop the logging; if your computer does crash, the log should be intact up until that point.

Please upload the log to the third-party filesharing site of your choice (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) and link it for me.  Either leave it in .csv format or, if you're going to use OneDrive, create a .zip file, and don't open the log before uploading it, or else my log reader might not be able to interpret it.

MoistestBagel0  Please try the suggestions in the thread I made for you here, and use that thread for any further help.

JanieBaer  Please test with no mods or custom content, if you haven't already.  You don't need to save your progress.  If that doesn't help, please create a new thread in this section describing the issue in more detail, or post screenshots.

  • Missval22  Are you still seeing the same kind of crash: screen goes black, fans get noisy?  If not, please let me know what happens.

What do I do now? Impossible to play, I've tried everything ...
EA is planning to do something because it's great to see people trying to help, but unfortunately EA is the one who made the game unplayable!
In this forum we don't even know if we're being seen and heard!
Unfortunately everything I've been told to do has come to nothing and my game crashes after one or two minutes!
