Crashing

My game will not run properly. It will start but crash before reaching the menu screen. I've uninstalled and reinstalled my game, cleared the cache on the EA app, and repaired the game, but nothing works.

  • lmmturner2  If you haven't already, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

If you get another crash, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

So, I tried this again and it worked the second time! Thank you so much for your help!

  • lmmturner2  The graphics driver your laptop has installed is from 2020, which could be an issue all by itsellf.  So please update the driver.  It would be best to use a driver from HP, if there's a newer one.  Go here:

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/laptops

Enter your serial number, choose your OS (just Windows 11 is fine) if prompted, click All Drivers, expand Driver-Graphics, and find the newest Intel driver by version number.  The first number matters most, e.g. 32 is newer than 31; after that, the last four numbers matter.  Your current version is 27.20.0100.8478.

If you do find a newer driver, run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart after installing and before trying to play.

Separately, your C drive is somewhat low on free space.  It would be best to clear another 11 GB or so, for 25 total free.  The page file is also almost all used, so it could help to go through the Task Manager's Startup section and disable any apps you don't need running all the time.  This wouldn't prevent them from working at all; it just means they wouldn't start with Windows and run in the background, eating up resources that might be better applied elsewhere.

I was having this same issue and for whatever reason (even though I don’t use or have ever loaded a mod) if you rename the mods folder in the document<sims4 folder it seems to fix this error. I’m now stuck on an error where it loads to the sims4 screen and the hangs and crashes.

I use the EA app. I didn't know the Origin app still worked. I don't know if that is the problem with your game. You may want to look into downloading EA instead.

  • I've been having a similar issue myself and it only started to do this after the recent update. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling, removed the mods that I used, and every thing else in-between. Nothing worked.

Also how are you supposed to be able repair a game if Origin is no longer functional since as of April of last year?
