So, after the latest fix that was due to the failed to launch, I've now began to have the game crash. It's random as to when it happens, sometimes within 5 min of logging in and then sometimes an hour or so. There are zero errors that pop up. Just freezes and eventually crashes. I restart the game, it works for a bit and then...down it goes. I have not bothered trying to really fix the game outside of the repair game feature. Anyone know what's going on?
AmarisNichole150 Mods are the most likely culprit, but the Mods folder isn't the only source of issues. Some mods put files inside the saves folder. A bad file in ConfigOverride could also do this. But if neither of these is the problem either, you're better off working with a new Sims 4 folder (you don't need to remove the entire Electronic Arts folder), adding your saves and Tray files, and anything else you'd like to keep using, to that, rather than trying to figure out what's wrong with the old folder.
I had the same issue, except it's turning black, but when I took out the Electronic Arts folder, it worked fine. Could it be a mod that could be causing the problem?
Update: I tried removing the mods folder just to see, but it still shows a black screen when I start the game. Only when I take out the Electronic Arts folder, starting fresh, does the game work fine.
Second Update: It seems like the game doesn't like it when we have the graphics displayed as windowed. Only full screen lets me see my game without the screen going dark. Found this out when randomly trying to put my game back in the windowed mode.
CrowTalons As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder. Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop. When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content. (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.) Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.
If you get another crash, please provide a dxdiag. Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop. From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
