kaitts Please restart your computer and try again, still with the Mods folder removed. If the game doesn't work, please try the suggestions in the first post of this thread.
The "failed to launch game" error only with mods or cc present, and the mods and cc are updated or otherwise compatible with the game, is a known issue at the moment:

The error can also happen if the game crashes and you don't restart your computer before trying again.
I'm guessing here, no evidence to prove this. But is it possible when the Marketplace code was enabled, all the official Maxis Templates made for the Marketplace creators broke everything made before it went live?
