EA app and steam refuses to launch the Sims 4

So I haven't been able to launch the game at all today.  No matter where I try to start it from it won't launch. EA pops up and says "preparing game", then the window disappears and then reappears after a second or a few.
In steam the button switches from "play" to "stop" during this, and as soon as the EA window reappears it says "play" again. It's like it trying to launch and then just reboots somehow. Sims 4 won't show up in the bottom bar or anything, it doesn't seem to launch at all.
I can't find a repair button in the EA app so I haven't been able to try that. The game has worked as perfect as possible the last couple of days. I have o mods or CC and never had on this computer, only add-ons. I haven't changed anything on my computer since I played yesterday so I don't understand what's going on.

I've been on google and trying different things:

  • Used CCleaner .
  • Restarted computer several times (after every change)
  • Tried running as administrator both EA app and game from folder.
  • Installed latest windows update.
  • Verifying files in steam.
  • Closed razer and nvidia to avoid programs clashing.

I don't know how to uninstall without removing my save files so I haven't tried that yet. It's my last resort so I went here first. Hope someone can help or give advice, thank you in advance!

  • Dailedra  Do you have family share enabled in Steam?  If so, please disable it.  And please double-check that your Steam and EA accounts are (still) properly linked.  Try signing into any EA site, for example this one, with your Steam credentials.  If it works, the accounts are linked; if anything else happens, let me know.

Aside from that, please disable your Killer software, which may only be listed in the Task Manager's background processes list.  Your dxdiag shows that it's crashing a lot.

If this doesn't help, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Click Windows key-R and enter perfmon /rel in the run box, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at the same time you most recently tried to play Sims  4.  If you find one, right-click it and select View technical details, then copy those details and paste them into a reply here.  If you don't see an error, check back in an hour or so—the RM doesn't always update right away.

When you have a Steam install, you can only repair the game through Steam, not through the EA App.

33Centralstreet  Please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the Attachment (paper clip icon) button included with the other formatting options.

Thank you so much for all the help!
I had two users on steam so I logged my friend out and then verified the game again. It re-downloaded some file and now it's working again finally! I suppose that's what you meant by family share lol, I couldn't find it in the settings but it showed up when I was logging in to steam today so it's fixed now.

    Thanks again!

  • Dailedra  I don't know whether that's family share or some friend sharing feature, but either way, I'm not surprised that the feature wouldn't play well with an EA game.  I'm glad it was a relatively simple fix.

33Centralstreet  The faulting module in this crash is igdumdim64.dll, which is the Intel graphics driver.  You already updated the driver, but it's worth doing a clean uninstall and reinstall, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

Use the same Dell driver as before.

If that doesn't help, try forcing the game to launch in DirectX 11 mode.  Open the EA App, select Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -dx11 to the command line box.

I realize the second suggestion is a lot easier than the first, but the graphics driver really shouldn't be crashing at all, so it needs to be removed and reinstalled.
