EA app not launching any of my games

I play The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims 4 (which is also connected to Steam), and I haven't opened these games since Feb 20th before the recent updates. They were updated since then. When I try to launch any of these games (whether through steam or the EA app) the only thing that happens after I get the "preparing game" loading pop-up is that the EA app opens to my library. Nothing else. Not even a black screen or anything.

I've ended the EA task in my task manager, restarted my computer, removed all my mods/CC, uninstalled the EA app and reinstalled, run the program as an administrator, and tried populating a clean save by removing the Sims 4 folder. I anticipate the problem has nothing to do with a save file because none of my other games will launch either.

I can provide information on my computer specs if necessary but it is a high-performing computer.

Hi, I did more troubleshooting on my own after reinstalling. I had to reinstall on Steam as well as EA and then I had to do a fresh open (I removed the entire Sims 4 folder) and narrowed down the issue to something in that original folder being corrupted. I don’t know what it was, but it wasn’t mods and it wasn’t the saves I was using. So I was able to solve this problem on my own. I did have to reinstall AND removed the Sims 4 folder to get it to work because those two solutions did not work individually.

puzzlezaddicti marked my reply as a solution but I can try to get the dxdiag with the old files if it will help trying to solve this issue for other players. It was definitely both and installation and Sims 4 files issue.

  • Piperbee  It's fine, I don't need your dxdiag if you've fixed the problem.  The important point here would be the error that happened when you tried to play, if in fact there was an error at all.  You can find that info in the Reliability Monitor.  Click Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened any time you tried to open the game and it didn't work.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see any errors, that means the game was being blocked, which is useful to know for your case but won't help diagnose it for anyone else, unfortunately.
