Error 803 Legacy Edition

Hello,

yesterday i played sims 4 with the normal edition after updating to the newest version and everything worked well. Today the game didn't start at all and the origin game launcher suggested downloading the legacy version. So i did download the legacy version. Now everytime i start the game i get the message that the 32bit version is unstable with the packs i use (cats & dogs, the family one an a few others. I don't know the english names XD) an i should try using 64bit. Another thing is the error 803 i get everytime i try to load a saved game.

Thank you for helping

M

  • @MonKind  Your dxdiag lists a number of errors that are most likely related to your graphics card driver.  Some of these list the 32-bit version of Sims 4; none list the 64-bit version.  So it's not entirely clear that the problem with the 64-bit version is driver related, although it could be.

Since it's simpler, the first thing to try is to move your entire Sims 4 game folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will be created with no content.  Don't add anything to this folder; just see whether you can start a new save and play for a bit.  Let me know either way.

If that doesn't help, temporarily disable your antivirus/firewall, just long enough to see whether it helps.  If it does, you can set exceptions for TS4_x64.exe and Origin.exe.

If the game still won't load properly, the next step would be to do a clean uninstall and reinstall of your graphics driver.  First, download Display Driver Uninstaller from here:

    https://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2747

You can download a fresh driver here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/158180/en-us

Next, take your computer completely offline—disable wifi and/or pull the ethernet cord—and double-click the DDU.exe.  Take note of where the file will land, and click Extract.  If it's easier, you can copy the path and then paste it into the address bar in a File Explorer window.  Open the folder and then Display Driver Uninstaller.exe, and you'll get a message that you're not in Safe Mode.  Click OK, then go to Options and enable Safe Mode dialog.  Here's a screenshot of what your options should look like; make sure the box in red is checked:

Close options, and the DDU, and then open the DDU.exe again.  For launch options, choose "Safe Mode (Recommended)," and then click Reboot to Safe Mode (you'll need your password, so find it before rebooting).  Once you login, you'll see this:

In the blue box, choose GPU, then Nvidia if it's not already showing.  Then click Clean and Restart red box).

Once your computer has rebooted, now back in normal mode, run the driver install .exe in custom mode. Select "perform a clean installation" and install ONLY the GPU driver and the PHYSX software.

Reboot again and see whether you can launch the game.  If not, let me know.

  • Hey I have legacy and have been getting error message 803. When I moved my files out of the electronic arts folder the game started and worked. I have also stopped OneDrive syncing.

what I am trying to do is open a save file from a friend as I can’t access gallery and we decided to try it by sharing a save file manually.

when I try to load the world I get a notice that things will be missing and then when I attempt to load the lot I get error code 803 as pictured

Is what I’m trying even possible?

@jordanedougherty Does the friend have packs you don't own ?

You can ask your friend to export the houses/Sims you want to their library and send you the files instead. They should be in the tray folder

I used to have this problem A LOT and was always, always told that they had never heard of that before (even though I had reported it a few times). Where I own and have always owned and have always had a computer with a graphics card capable of the full version of the Sims 4. I recently switched to a higher end computer, and didn't have any issues until today. I played the Sims 4 yesterday (yes, it was the full version as it always has been) and tried to launch it this morning only to get that stupid legacy edition error. I've tried repairing my game, removing all files, etc. There is no explaination.

Now the EA app is showing that my collection and everything is blank. I have no way of checking on how the 3rd repair I'm doing is going.

So I dug around for the last time I had to deal with this problem to figure out how I solved it all those previous times.

    Instructions are as follows:

    1. If you have mods/cc, remove them. (I recommend just cut and paste into a backup folder.)

    2. Clear all exceptions. (You can literally drag any last exceptions to the trash.)

    3. Repair the game. (This can be done by clicking on the button "Manage" for the Sims 4 game, then selecting "Repair" from the drop down menu.) - Depending on how many packs you have, this can take a while.

When checking to see if it worked, try to launch the game before putting any mods/cc back in. If it doesn't work, ask EA. If it does, you can add your mods/cc back into the folder. If it worked before adding the mods/cc and doesn't work after, it is likely a problem with mods/cc. So far, this method has worked for me.

Another tip, always backup your saves. Just in case.
