Error preventing progression with Blast From The Past Event

My game has thrown an error during the blast from the past event which is preventing me from completing the event; at this rate the event will be over before I am able to complete it and redeem the rewards.

During the Week 3 activities, your computer is supposed to break while you attempt to organise a time machine, and the next step is to repair this. However, my computer did not break, so I am stuck on the repair step with nothing to fix. I've been to libraries, people's houses, Evergreen Harbour (it's a new save so the community spaces have not been converted yet), and I cannot find a broken computer anywhere. So I am completely stuck. I have saved and exited the game, reloaded on a different day, played a different save and come back to this one. Nothing has worked. At this point I think my only remaining option is to install a mod that will allow me to click and break the computer.

Is anyone within EA able to repair this? Are there any other suggestions, or should I just install MCCC?
