Freezing during game play and building

Hello, i have been playing sims basically since it first came out and i cant seem to fix this issue

my game while building mostly will crash with no explanation. tools will stop working, game play no longer interacts with anything, sims are basically statues, the game wont save, iv let it sit on the save loading screen for about an hour hoping it would fix itself as sometimes that will work but no.

i have tried moving folders out that people have suggested in the past that had worked for a while then it crashed again, uninstalled and reinstalled everything ( i personally do not mod sims ) so don't have any mods that would crash or corrupt the game, restarted my pc and even went as far as thinking it was the new enchanted by nature pack so didn't activate that but it still happened

the thing that annoys me the most is that my computer is relatively high end and the game itself is not showing any error codes, just a crash and a reset of hours of gameplay.

  • Hi appgirl297

Could you post your Computer's DxDiag?

    - Press Windows-Key + R
    - Type: DxDiag
    - Click on Save all Information.
    - Attach the Text File to your post

  • appgirl297  The Sims 4 errors in your dxdiag are all of a type that's somewhat generic but can be related to the graphics driver.  This type can also be caused by a bad mod or a corrupt household, among other things, so that's not definitive.  But since you don't use mods or custom content, and replacing a fully-updated graphics driver is a bit of a process, please test a new save in a new user folder.

Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how build mode works.

Please don't download anything from the Gallery.  Just start with a blank or default EA-made lot and build from there.  You can save your work and transfer it to your main save later if you want, so it's not a complete waste of time.

If you get another crash, please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the graphics driver, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

However, instead of reinstalling the newest driver from Nvidia, try the one from mid-March, which seems to have been stable in that Nvidia didn't update it for a month or so.  It's easy to update from there, but installing the newest driver and reverting later would require another clean uninstall.  You can find older drivers here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/

Choose Game Ready Driver as the Download Type to go back further.

    hello!

thank you heaps for the info you have provided, i have tried taking out the sims from the electronic arts folder and so far have had no problems, will update again if something does occur though

as for the previous household, when you mentioned the sims house hold could be corrupted out of curiosity how does that happen during random gameplay and building, would the gallery be possibly responsible? iv never had this issue before so its beyond me, would it be safer to also scrap that build and household? or could i go back?

sorry for all the questions i feel like i should know but im new to PC only been on laptop before hand eheh.

  • appgirl297  I apologize for the late reply; I've been away from the forums for a few days.

Sims can become corrupt for several reasons, and probably more reasons than we know.  Some are mod-related, and it's possible that a problem would persist through an upload to the Gallery and a download to someone else's game.  Some issues are probably the game itself being less than reliable, for example maybe a buff doesn't get removed when it should have been and is then stuck permanently.  But it's not always possible to find the source of the issue.

If you want to use this content again, I'd suggest testing the sims in a new save, and the build in a different new save with new sims (that you make, not from the Gallery).  If everything looks fine with one, but the other gives you problems, that's reasonably close to conclusive, as in, you can probably safely use whichever one is fine in the new save.  If they're both fine, it's a little harder to know, but you could split the difference and use them together in a new save.

If you want to go back to your main save, just understand that you might see issues going forward, and keep lots of backups.  But the most you have to lose is the save itself and the time you put in; there's no harm in playing forward for as long as you can.
