Game crashes randomly with no mods or CC.

coestar15  Is there any pattern to the crashing, for example when your sims travel or visit a specific lot, or perform a particular interaction, or maybe the crashes happen at a certain time of sim-day?  How long can you typically play before you get a crash?

Please also provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

puzzlezaddict From what I can tell the crashes are completely random. To give some examples I've crashed while afk waiting for my sim to finish work, I've crashed around 10 seconds after I travelled to the library and I also crashed while looking at lights in the build menu. I seem to get around 10 mins of playing before the crash but I'm not 100% sure if its the exact same time every time. I attached the file you asked for as well.

I've done a fresh install since the crashing started yesterday.
I moved from steam to the EA launcher which is what I'm using currently.
I also completely deleted my Sims 4 folder forcing to create a new one.
After I started playing on the fresh install with the new folder I've noticed every time it crashes it resets the quest to find Emit even though I have saved frequently (Nothing else resets further than the last save just the quest). However this didn't happen when it was crashing yesterday as the quest progress would stay where it was when I crashed.

coestar15  Your dxdiag lists a number of crashes of the graphics driver, so please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver, as described here:

If you get more crashes, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for errors that happened at exactly the time of any Sims 4 crash from after you reinstalled the graphics driver.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  I don't need to see exact duplicates.  If you don't see a new error for a particular crash, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

I've reinstalled the drivers and it still crashed. I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for in the reliability monitor so I'm just going to attach a screenshot from there.

coestar15  The first error is extremely generic: Sims 4 (TS4_x64) crashed because it crashed, because of an access violation, which simply means that the game tried to access memory in a way that isn't permitted.  That alone is never useful.  The second crash, however, is a buffer overflow exception (BEX), and it looks like the kind of crash we see with conflicting software.

Before going down that route, please move or rename the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts, in case you have any files inside that are causing problems.  For example, a stale file in ConfigOverride can cause this type of crashing.  It's faster to simply rename the folder though.  This will prevent your saves and other user data from loading, but it'll all still be intact and can be restored later.

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

If this helps, you can selectively reenable services until you find the culprit, then either leave that disabled or (if it belongs to an app you want to keep using) let me know what it is so we can try to fix the underlying issue.

If the game freezes or crashes in a clean boot, please try again, except with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

I would like the same Reliability Monitor info from any other crashes going forward, although you don't need to post exact duplicates; just say you saw however many of one particular error.
