Camera movements very choppy since BH patch | EA Forums - 12185589
Since it can be bit difficult to navigate in that thread I will summarize here what I did:
To do this you need a text editor, like notepad, other editors that work better are notepad++ and visual studio code.
- Go to this location where The Sims 4 is installed (The Sims 4/Game/Bin) and copy GraphicsRules.sgr and Ts4CommonRules.sgr to your ConfigOverride folder which is located in The Sims 4 document files /My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/ConfigOverride. You have now created what's called an override which you can edit and that the game will read instead of the original one in the Bin folder. If you want the game to read the original one you can just delete or move those files from the configoverride folder.
- Download the graphicsrules.sgr from this creators site: https://www.patreon.com/posts/55891224 we will not use this file but we will copy and change the LOD (level of detail) settings used in that file.
- Go to this post in the thread and look at the pictures posted: Camera movements very choppy since BH patch | EA Forums - 12185589
- the picture to the left is the graphicsrules.sgr file that was downloaded from that creator site, the picture to the right is the graphicsrules.sgr file that they copied to their configoverride folder.
- open both files and make the changes that they do in the pictures, your graphicsrules.sgr file should look like the one to the right. it can also be a good idea to save your changes in steps and start the game to make sure that you don't mess up the code, if the code has syntax error the game will show an error message.
- save the file and start the game, if you have done it right, the game will now run with these changed LOD settings.
It actually made it worse. 🥲 That’s how random this lag is. Sometimes I can play for hours without any lag, other times I can’t even play for 2 min because of how bad it gets. I even bought a cooling pad because I thought overheating could be an issue but it didn’t make any difference. Thank you for your time and your help, though.logionX
Just curious, I know heating might be a problem but who suggested this?
Your GPU might be running at 100% but if its temperature is below 80% you are fine.
Monitor, in task manager, how your PC performs then draw conclusions.
This actually makes sence cause with the introduction of Business and Hobbies a lot of content (like adding in game tattoos and not in CAS) is dependent on more RAM than what it needed previously.
I think the main problem os this game is memory leak. 1.115 is fine on this issue but the new one (july one) introduced more changes in UI, thus more RAM usage.
PedroMateus79 The issues that I experienced was most likely the recent performance and optimization updates that they have done which have not worked with my computer setup. That's my theory anyway, I have a gaming PC with 64GB RAM and a RTX3080OC(10GB) so I think those changes were throttling my GPU, the file changes that for the level of detail texture settings. It's also possible like you said that the game requires more RAM now but I was not experiencing any RAM issue on my end.
RenanPisi Just to try and narrow down the issue, you haven't done anything else significant to the game before the July 1st update? You didn't buy any pack? The issues you are describing does almost sound like a driver issue like a memory leak, which you can often tell is the case because your whole computer starts lagging, is the rest of your computer slow when the game is lagging? You can also see that in the task manager because it shows that you are running out of memory, try opening that and check how much memory you have left when you are lagging in the game (right click the start menu, select task manager and then go to performance)
Here are some suggestions that you can try which I have not seen in the thread:
- Disable the online connection to the EA App (and the gallery) in the game settings. For some reason this can just cause the game to lag sometimes.
- Try lowering graphics settings and try running it in laptop mode, try turning vsync on and off and see if there is any difference.
- You said it happens when moving inventories, do your households have a lot of items in their inventories, for example a lot of recipes from Cottage Living (that pack adds a crazy amount of new recipes and ingredients).
