game not letting me update

So I havent played the sims since before the newest update, and when I try to update it, it says the update has already been completed, but it also says that I need to download the update in order to play. So I've clicked it, and it doesnt do anything. Its not letting me play without updating, and its not letting me update. I've tried closing it out, I've tried uninstalling, but it won't let me do that either. Please help.
