Game Stuck in Unplayable Build Mode

Hello all!

I recently encountered a problem with my game getting automatically toggled onto build mode once i get out of CAS and place my sims. When in build mode, i cannot place any items, toggle between different categories, or select already placed items. whenever I try to go back into live mode it just switches back to build mode. It also freezes and the only way to get it to unfreeze is to open the cheat bar, but the game is still unplayable even when unfrozen. I've tried removing my mods folder, reinstalling the game, switching back to origin after using the EA app with no success. I've deleted all the sims files from my computer and reinstalled them to no avail.

I genuinely have no idea what else I can do, please help.

Thanks

  • @breezyotaku  Is it possible that OneDrive has redownloaded any Sims 4 files for you?  If you let it sync the contents of Documents, that would include the Sims 4 user folder, and it could download this folder, including mods and custom content, after you've removed it.  So please double-check that there are still no mods inside the Mods folder.

Another remote possibility that comes to mind is that your F3 key is acting up.  That's the hotkey for entering build mode, so if it's firing for no reason, that would at least explain why the game keeps forcing you into build mode.  I don't know whether repeatedly pressing the key would also reset build mode, as in, open the basic menu and cancel anything you're trying to do, but it's possible.

Anyway, you can try reassigning F3 (F1 and F2 are for Live and Buy modes) to different keys, at least temporarily.
