Game will not open

Let me start by saying I have no mods or CC. I've got several expansion packs, but none are new. I've been playing for years, and never had an issue up until the recent update to the app. 

Now, as of a couple days ago, I noticed that I cannot start the game. It freezes on the loading screen, until I hit the windows button, which minimizes the app. Then when I try to open it again, it's frozen on the menu screen. I can't close the app at that point, and have to restart my computer to get it to close. I've tried reinstalling the app, and repairing it, and nothing is working. 

I've been reading through this forum and others and see that I'm not the only one with this issue.
