redhead0966 I don't see any evidence that the problem is intrinsic to these laptops. It would be highly unusual for the issue to show up on this many machines at the same time, and the timing corresponds to a Sims 4 update. So it's in all likelihood a game issue.

It's not inherently dangerous to run Sims 4 on the iGPU. The chip will perform significantly worse than the dedicated card, and yes, the processor will run hotter than if it only had to handle the usual CPU-related tasks. But the CPU is perfectly capable of throttling to protect itself as necessary. The same is true when the laptop is using the Nvidia card.
If you had a fan fail, that would be a different matter. And dust can clog fans or vents, making overheating a much more common result, even on lower workloads. But it's normal for a gaming laptop to run hot enough to get loud, and to throttle when it needs to, without damaging itself.
