lostinusa73 Thanks for the dxdiag. You're the fifth person with an HP Victus who's reported this issue after the patch, although no one else has been able to play in windowed mode. No one else has had the newest Nvidia graphics driver installed, which may explain the difference. But the other detail I've noticed is that everyone so far has had their DPI scaling set to 120 (125%), so I'd suggest changing it to 96 instead. Here's how:

Even if you don't like the results for general use, it would be useful to know whether this fixed the Sims 4 issue in particular.
rainbowspitter You're the first person I've seen report this issue on an Omen, but it's still an HP laptop, and you're still using a DPI scaling of 120 like everyone else, so please try the above as well.
And independently of DPI scaling, please let me know whether you can play in windowed mode. Open Options.ini, inside Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, search for fullscreen , and set it to 0 (zero).
Sorry for my late response. I was away for the weekend and came back sick. I also have an HP Victus. My husband had disabled the Nvidea Geforce RTX and the game worked on the onboard video card.
Now ask me after reading all the messages, is this a problem with the video card of this laptop or has the Sims added/changed something in the update that means our video card no longer works with the sims.
Is it wise to play the sims with the onboard video card? Don't know if it's an HP Victus thing, but when playing sims the laptop always gets quite hot despite the extra fan and the fan in the laptop always goes quite fast.
redhead0966 I don't see any evidence that the problem is intrinsic to these laptops. It would be highly unusual for the issue to show up on this many machines at the same time, and the timing corresponds to a Sims 4 update. So it's in all likelihood a game issue.

It's not inherently dangerous to run Sims 4 on the iGPU. The chip will perform significantly worse than the dedicated card, and yes, the processor will run hotter than if it only had to handle the usual CPU-related tasks. But the CPU is perfectly capable of throttling to protect itself as necessary. The same is true when the laptop is using the Nvidia card.
If you had a fan fail, that would be a different matter. And dust can clog fans or vents, making overheating a much more common result, even on lower workloads. But it's normal for a gaming laptop to run hot enough to get loud, and to throttle when it needs to, without damaging itself.
Unchecking it didn't help. I will ask my husband to look at the other solution. I will let you know in this topic whether it worked or not.

My Husband had completely removed everything from the video card. At first I couldn't find it again to put back on my laptop. This was achieved via the HP site.
I can now play the sims again, not in full screen. So it worked for me too.
Only now I see 2 things in the sims 4 folder that were not there before and the game version numbers have been changed to symbols. Does this have to do with the update? There will now be GPU Benchmark Results and GPU Score Results in the folder.
redhead0966 I have no idea what the benchmark results are from unless you or your husband did some benchmarking on your own. The strange symbols in GameVersion.txt is a known issue with Windows 11 and wouldn't happen if you used a different program to open the file, for example Notepad++. But it's not a problem and doesn't need a fix.
