Get to Work not showing as owned when I reload game

I am playing on PC using the EA app. I bought Get to Work, along with the base game and a few other packs, back in March of 2021. My purchase history is showing "completed." When I reload my game, I get a message saying that it requires Get to Work, and if I continue, the items used from that pack will disappear. I hover over the Get to Work icon, and it says Not Owned. But I click on it, on the purchase page it says "You already own this pack." Well, yes I do. I bought it three years ago. But something in the software somewhere seems to forget that, and thinks I don't own it.

If I exit out of the EA app, repair my game, and clean the cache, the problem resolves. Until the next time I open up the app, and then I have the same problem again. Do I actually have to repair the game every time I play? Get to Work is the only pack causing this problem. Thank you.

  • @MrsBradyBunch  You could try reinstalling only Get to Work.  Open the EA App game library, click Sims 4, then Manage > View properties, and you'll see the game's install location.  Inside that Sims 4 folder, delete the EP01 folder, which is for GtW.  Make sure the EA App is closed and the EABackgroundService is NOT running in the Task Manager, or you won't be able to delete the folder.  Then open the App again and reinstall GtW, from Manage > Manage add-ons.

Thank you. I reinstalled only GtW per your instructions. On the load page, next to Resume, I noticed my Sim has hair. That is a good sign. Up until now he has been bald, even though I didn't create him that way. Which tells me I was probably using a GtW hairstyle for him. If it's visible on the load screen, that tells me something is different. I'll call this solved for now, but maybe come back if it starts going wrong.

I'm afraid it's not solved. I was able to play twice without this issue, but now it's back again. It's only a minor inconvenience to have to repair the game and clear the cache every time, so I suppose I can live with it.

@MrsBradyBunch  Are you launching Sims 4 through the EA App or from a desktop shortcut, and does it work better if you go through the App game library?  Is the App itself appearing to load properly?  When it doesn't, you can often still launch your games, but you might see a yellow banner across the top of the screen, or your main game library page might list Sims 4 as owned, alongside any other games you own, rather than installed, above the list of owned games.

@puzzlezaddict I don't use a desktop shortcut. I play through the app, which seems to be opening properly itself. Clicking the three dots in the upper right corner of the game in the library produces the Get to Work pack not being recognized as owned. Clicking the arrow next to the icon in the left column did open the game successfully. But my Sim as he appears next to the word "Resume" is bald, when he should have hair. So something is still off.

I'm thinking of starting a fresh game with a fresh Sim, and seeing if there is still an issue.

@MrsBradyBunch  If GtW isn't loading in-game, even sporadically, that's not a save issue but rather something to do with the game install or account.  A clean install of Sims 4 may help, specifically removing it with Revo Uninstaller, or uninstalling through Windows and cleaning the registry with Piriform's CCleaner.  (The free versions of these apps work fine.)  For specific instructions on using Revo, please see this post:

I'd clean-uninstall the EA App as well, just to be thorough.

Update: I did a clean reinstall of the app and the game. Re-added my mods (mccc and a couple of custom careers) and my saves. On Restart I got a "Welcome to GtW" page as well as the other add-ons. Now on the Resume page, my Sim appears just as I created him. Hair, mustache, and glasses all present. We'll see if it lasts. Thanks for your help.
