Getting a new pc/laptop for ultra settings
Hi,
I am planning to get a new computer to play ts4 since my current laptop is not dedicated to gaming, and I am planning to get more packs which my laptop won’t be able to handle them anymore. But I’m a noob to pc building so I need some help.
My maximum budget is USD1200 but I hope to keep it under USD1000. Both desktop/laptop is ok for me. I don’t have much space in my room, so if I have to get a desktop, I hope it could be smaller and can fit into the tiny space. But I am not sure if that’s possible?
I’ve looked online and I found a laptop with a pretty decent(?) spec, and it’s on discount (price~USD930). Here’s the spec:
Operations System: Windows® 10 Home
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-11400H 6Cores 12Threads 4.5Ghz
Storage Type: SSD
SSD Capacity: 512GB PCI-E SSD
Memory: 16GB DDR4 - 3200
Display Screen Resolution (dpi ): 1920 x 1080 ( 144Hz )
Display Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 3050Ti Laptop GPU ( 4GB GDDR6 )
I’ve done some research so I think the graphic card should be enough? But I am not sure for the other spec because I’m not familiar with computers. If it’s not good can anyone give me some other advice?
I want it be able to play on ultra settings but idk if the budget will allow me to do so. I am also planning to gradually get all the EP+GP, so I need a pc/laptop that can handle all packs, plus some maxis match cc and some bug-fixing mods.
Sorry for having so much words but I hope someone could give me some recommendations. Thanks in advance!
@itzfyl Your post definitely doesn't have too many words in it—more details are almost always better. Anyway, yes, a laptop with the specs you've listed should run Sims 4, all packs included, on ultra graphics settings. The other question is what model laptop this is. Some are better-made than others, and some have features you may like better, for example a nicer screen or quieter fans.
On the other hand, your available options may be limited depending on where you live, i.e. this may be the best performance available for under $1,000 or the equivalent. If you'd like me to look for other options, just list your country and let me know your budget in your own currency—the exchange rate can fluctuate a bit, so it's easier to have an exact number from you.
If you'd rather just search yourself, it looks like you already have a pretty good idea of what to get. The specs you've listed are more than good enough: the processor will keep up with the game, 500 GB storage is more than you'll ever use for Sims 4, and 16 GB RAM is twice what you technially need for the game but is very nice to have for multitasking purposes.
As far as desktops go, they do perform better than laptops with equivalent hardware, but not in the smallest form factors. So if you're really short on space and couldn't fit something like this (not a recommendation, just an example):
Then you'd be better off getting a laptop. The very smallest desktops are actually more expensive than an equivalent laptop because of how difficult it is to engineer and build a machine like that.
If you have more questions, please feel free to ask.
