Glitching and stucking on load screen

I don't know if this started with the Grim Reaper event or with the switch to DirectX update but my game started lagging terribly. Sometimes I'm stuck on the loading screen for minutes until I close the game from the tool bar. If I manage to make it through the load screen, the gameplay glitches and lags and it getting on my nerves. How can I fix this? Could it be a PC problem? I've been using this laptop for 3+ years and never had a problem like this before in the game so I can only guess it's a game thing.

Thanks in advance!

  • iBubblezz  Does the lot you're trying to load use the Off the Grid challenge?  If so, remove it in Build mode (which you can access directly from Manage Worlds).  OtG is broken at the moment.

Otherwise, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If the game gets stuck again, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the camera (Insert Media) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

It was glitching on the load screen of every lot. It was even lagging in the build mode. For what I know I have only the Grim Reaper challenge running right now. After a lot of search and chatting with technical support it seems that my laptop is stuck between installing the new DirectX and running the previous one. I actually got in the game and checked the "Direct 9" box from the game options. It seems it's running fine for the moment. I'm still at loss though as to if this is a right thing to do and if it is just temporary and the game will glitch again.

Should I move the folder out either way and try?

Having the same problem. Long load times. Lagging badly with sims freezing, stuck in the middle of tasks. Then once you save & exit and return to game play they have completed the tasks given although it froze prior to. I even had a sim randomly start walking to the middle of nowhere without stopping. Debugging does not work. No mods. No off the grid challange. Glitches began with the Grim Reaper event or the switch to DirectX update. Not a PC issue. There has to be a bug in the recent updates. Please help with a fix. Very frustrating during game play.

  • ashlthomas  Please test a new save, for comparison's sake.  If the new save also runs poorly, please provide a dxdiag, as described above.

I have moved the folder which resulted in the game no longer loading. It becomes a screen that is the wrong dimensions. Then after 15 minutes the sim’s 4 landing page loads with no access to the mouse and freezes after attempting to use the touch screen. The play new sage option is unreachable. I tried to uninstall reinstall the game to get past this blunder with zero luck.

  • iBubblezz  Yes, please try moving the user folder if you're having any issue in DirectX 9 mode.  If that doesn't help, then post a dxdiag.

There's no way for Sims 4 to be "stuck" between the DirectX 9 and 11 versions.  It either launches one or the other and keeps running that version until you quit and reload.

  • ashlthomas  To fix the screen resizing, tell the EA App to launch Sims 4 in windowed mode.  Open the App game library, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -w in the box.  You can remove this once you've selected windowed mode in the game options, once you've gotten that far.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the camera (Insert Media) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
