Silly question probably, but I don't get how it works. Sometimes other sims would invite me to a festival by phone. When I agree they come over to my house and a social event begins. Then I can't travel anymore, so I don't know how to get to the festival... Can anyone help me how to get to a festival when the social events has begun?

they should not actually come to your house but meet you on the festival lot
Where are those festival taking place ? The neighborhood you live in ? Are those key holders or just friends ? Does it always happen like this ?
Also are you using mods/cc ?

Thank you for the help. The festival take place all over the city. These sims are acquaintances but not friends and they do not have a key. I do not have any mods and it always happens like this. I get a text asking if I want to go to the festival; I say yes and some time later they arrive at my apartment and the social event begins. Maybe I have to go to the festival first?

Just realized you never answered if you were using mods.
I had this a couple of times when playing with Mods. I was not able to reproduce it when testing without mods so if you do use mods try to remove them and see if you get the same problem.

What I believe happen is that another Sim initialed a social event making the festival one obsolete.
Since OP never got back to me, I can't verify though
