How to repair The Sims 4 in the EA app on PC

I am having the same issue multiple other people are having with the Grim Reaper Rewards Quest. Please keep telling me to repair my game. HOW? I play on a PC, no Steam and No Discord. No custom content and No Mods. Can someone please help. I don't want to mess it up more by trying to fix it. Thank you!

  • Close The Sims 4 if it's running. Open the EA app and go to Library. Find The Sims 4 in the main panel and click on the three dots in the top right corner. This should open a small menu with Repair as one of the choices. Good luck.

    CM updated reply:

    It's easier than that.

You can repair The Sims 4 through the EA app on Windows PC without removing your saves, mods, or personal game files.

    Please follow these steps:

    1. Close The Sims 4 completely.
    2. Open the EA app.
    3. Select Library from the left-hand menu.
    4. Find The Sims 4.
    5. Click the three dots on the game tile, or open the game page and select Manage.
    6. Select Repair.
    7. Allow the EA app to check and replace any missing or damaged game files.
    8. Restart the EA app and launch The Sims 4 again after the repair is complete.

Repairing the game should not delete your saves. However, it is still sensible to back up the following folder before troubleshooting:

    Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4

If the Repair option is missing

First confirm where the game was installed.

    EA app installation:

    • Open Library.
    • Select The Sims 4.
    • Check both the three-dot menu and the Manage menu.
    • Restart the EA app and check again.

    Steam installation:

The EA app may not provide the Repair option for a Steam-managed installation. Instead:

    1. Open Steam.
    2. Go to Library.
    3. Right-click The Sims 4.
    4. Select Properties.
    5. Open Installed Files.
    6. Select Verify integrity of game files.

If The Sims 4 shows an initialization error

Check whether your antivirus or Windows security software is blocking the game. Add exceptions for the EA app and the following Sims 4 executable files:

    • EADesktop.exe
    • TS4_x64.exe
    • TS4_DX9_x64.exe
    • TS4_Launcher_x64.exe

You can also add the entire Sims 4 Bin folder as an exception.

Please note that repairing the game is a general troubleshooting step. The replies in this discussion do not confirm that it permanently resolves the Grim Reaper Rewards Quest issue.

Hello, I'm having this same issue and nothing is working. Eveytime I go into the game it stops me and says error then the code [135dec40:984c6a38:00000077:000000000]

I'm so stressed out at this point. This is my favorite game and I can't play it. I've tried eveything. When I go to the EA app on windows, manage it goes to manage add-ons only and no reset or anything. Then when I try on steam, it's the same issue practically. Please help!!

  • MelodyraeV746  The initialization error is typically antivirus-related.  So please set an exception in yours for EADesktop.exe.  Set exceptions for TS4_x64, TS4_DX9_x64, and TS4_Launcher_x64 as well, or the entire Bin folder they're in.

If you've installed Sims 4 through Steam, you need to repair through Steam.  The option is called "Verify integrity of the game files" and is under Properties > Local files or similar.

EA wouldn't give me a repair option on their Sims 4 game that I have in my library so I have to redownload it that's the only option I got with this new update 2025. Ugh

Open the EA App. On the left side of the page, you should see the icon of your Sims 4 game. Simply click on that, then click on the one that shows up on the next page. Select Repair on the drop-down menu. Best of luck.

I'm actually having a similar problem, I don't have the option to repair in either EA or Steam. I don't even have a manage option in EA. and the Steam manage option doesn't have anything for repairing the game. I'm mostly having the problem of not being able to save my files. and I've even restarted my pc, and redownloaded sims, which didn't work. Not even my mods are the problem. :/ I'm stumped until another update I guess.
