Laptop Advice for running SIMS4 at Ultra settings, with LOTS of mods/cc.

Hello everyone!!!

I just wanted to get some advice on if the laptop I'm looking at is a good fit for my case! Here's everything you need to know:

Before anyone tells me why I'm not getting a PC, I love portability and being able to use it anywhere, especially since I'll be using the laptop for other stuff such as some 3d work, video editing,... I need a pretty powerful machine, but not the super top high end stuff (at least not for now). By the way, I'm pretty tech-savvy but I know there are lots of people who have beyond knowledge than me, hence me asking. I've also been looking around for a bit and got the impression that's it's not enough, which sounds ridiculous at first but I feel like I've gotten brainwashed by the people who play AAA titles and hardcore stuff (who use 4090 and whatnot). I've been looking at the Legion Slim 7 Gen 8, and here are the specs:

Processor

AMD Ryzen™ 7 7840HS Processor (3.80 GHz, up to 5.10 GHz Max Boost, 8 Cores, 16 Threads, 16 MB Cache)

Operating System

Windows 11 Home

Graphics

NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4060 8GB GDDR6

Memory

  • 32 GB 5600MHz DDR5

  •

Storage

1TB PCIe SSD Gen 4

Battery

  • 99.99Whr

  • Supports Super Rapid Charge (10 min charge: 0-30% capacity; 30 min charge: 0-70% capacity; 80 min charge: 0-100% capacity)

Wireless

  • WiFi 6E* 802.11AX (2 x 2)

  • Bluetooth® 5.1

Display

16″ WQXGA (2560 x 1600) IPS, 16:10 , 240 Hz VRR / 5ms/3ms Response Time w/OD / 100% sRGB, 500 nits,  Dolby Vision® Support, NVIDIA® G-SYNC® Support,  AMD FreeSync™ Premium, TÜV Rheinland® Certified, X-Rite Pantone® Certified

Lenovo's website if you want to look around more: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-slim-series-laptops/lenovo-legion-slim-7-gen-8-(16-inch-amd)/len101g0029?orgRef=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F

Now, just a clarification that I use a lot of cc and mods. and when I mean by a lot, i mean it. A LOT. I look forward to cranking UPPP the settings

Thank you so much!

  • @adambesbesss  This laptop is significant overkill for Sims 4.  That's obviously not a bad thing by itself, but if Sims 4 is the most demanding task you'll run on the laptop, you could spend significantly less money and get essentially the same results.  But if you want this laptop for other reasons, it'll work great for Sims 4.  It also looks like an excellent machine in general, both from its listed specs and from reviews I've seen.

Please keep in mind that Sims 4 will lag on any computer, no matter how powerful; it's just the way the game is built.  But on this laptop, lag should be as minimal as is reasonably possible.

You may also want to look into Simp4Sims's graphics overhaul, which can reduce lag on higher-end machines by forcing the game to use high LOD images more of the time, eliminating the delays due to switching back and forth.  It's a great option for computers that can handle the extra load, and it's fully removable with no consequences to your game or user data.

Thanks so much! And this machine's main task won't be playing the sims4, as I've mentioned before I do video editing, 3d work as well as photoshop. It's mainly those, and sims 4 on the side.

I may have other few questions, but I'll probably write them down tomorrow since it's a bit late now.

    Thanks again!!
