Mods not working with new update

Trying to launch the game and it only gets past Create-A-Sims and shows me the world screens but can't actually play the gameplay, doesn't say anything just kicks me out. This has only started happening after the recent update.

  • @JaxHollywood2  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

  • I had the same problem. I thought it must because of some out-dated mods. Mine worked after removing the “height sliding”mod. So I’d suggest you checking your mods.

Tried this method; My game loaded but the mods didn't. I can get in and play but for some reason the mods don't show up on the Custom Content and Mods List. I waited for 2 hours before adding the mods. It was a no go.

Are the mods updated? EA apparently unexpectedly changed a whole lot of code.

@JaxHollywood2  As mentioned, moving the Sims 4 folder removes all your user data, and that includes mods.  They're not gone; they're just in the folder you moved, and the game can't read them there.

The fact that Sims 4 loads without your old user folder means the problem is somewhere in that folder, and mods are the first suspect.  So you'll need to test the files to see which ones are causing problems.  If you have a lot to go through, the 50/50 method can make the process much more efficient:

    https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Content#The_50.25_Method

Once you've sorted through your mods and custom content, you can move the contents of the saves and Tray folders to the new Sims 4 folder and pick up where you left off.  Most of the other content in that folder can be discarded, but you may want to preserve Screenshots and Recorded Videos.
