My game is completely wiped but all of my files are still here, please help!!

I went to boot up the sims today and it has completely wiped everything. It's literally at the 'Start New Game' screen after saying 'couldn't recognize video card'. All of my files are still in the folder including my saves and mods, I have multiple copies on my laptop. It's in the documents folder, everything is intact but the game is acting as if I just downloaded it. I am SO CONFUSED and i don't know what to do. I have over 200 hours on sims and so many households I've spent hours making. Please please please please PLEASE help.

I'm trying to use the guide but the steps it says doesnt work. I already have onedrive disabled for my documents folder and the command prompt Isn't working

  • PuddleOfBats  The game won't use the Downloads folder, but if you mean Documents, then yes, you can switch it back.  Sims 4 uses whatever Windows specifies the Documents directory, and you can change that value.  Please see the "I want to get rid of OneDrive" section of this guide:

[CURRENT ISSUE] Sims 4 saves/user content disappearing (PC) | EA Forums - 11838402

Since your files are intact, you don't need to copy them elsewhere, unless you want to create a backup for other reasons of course.  Just follow the instructions to disable OneDrive syncing of Documents, and if that alone doesn't help, change the registry value as described in the link to the Microsoft article.

The point is, you tell Windows what the Documents directory should be, and Sims 4 uses that too.

oh my god thank you so much!! its going through my regular onedrive downloads folder which is empty. Can i get it to go through my personal downloads folder or anything like that?

  • PuddleOfBats  It sounds like the game is now reading a different folder than the one that contains your saves and other user data.  Here's how to find that location:

    https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2018/07/how-to-find-your-user-folder/

Compare the full path to the file path for a save: right-click the save and select Properties > General, then look at the Location.  Everything has to match exactly, up to the Sims 4 folder.

If the new location is fine with you, move your files there.  If it's not fine, for example it's in OneDrive and you don't want that, let me know where it is and where you'd like your data to be.
