My game keeps crashing

So for about 2 months my game has been freaking out whenever I try to play in live mode. I can build houses, create sims, but for some reason when I try to actually PLAY with my sims, The game brings me back to the worlds menu and erases my character. (Even if I play a pre-existing household, it just deletes them too.) I really just wanna play the game, and I've tried removing my mods, repairing and updating the EA app, and even just restarting the game, but nothing has worked. I thought it could be just a problem with my computer, but everything else works fine. How can I fix this?
