Neighborhoods back to default - Apartments dissapear!

Since last update (feb 2026), all my neighborhoods went back to default when loading the map. Once I open a lot (any lot), it's completely empty! I can try to rebuild or download them again, but that takes centuries!

Same in San Myshuno; the map itself looks fine, but when trying to load an apartment, same thing happens. The lot is just grass and downloading or rebuilding an apartment is impossible. The world is unplayable!

My sims families are fine and are still where I left them, they just don't have their home anymore.

Please help

  • illuhD  Could you post screenshots of the empty lots in San Myshuno?

Since I'm curious, please also post screenshots of the contents of the scratch folder with this save loaded.  For some players, it's still in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves; for others, it's here:

    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\Electronic arts\The Sims 4\Scratch

What I'm curious about is whether you have a few (or a large number of) very small files, as opposed to the larger files you'd normally have on lots where you've built or decorated.

  • illuhD  Thanks for the screenshots from the game.  But I also need to see the contents of the scratch folder with this save loaded.  It will only appear when the game is running, and it will be in one of the two locations I listed.

I couldn't screenshot all, because it just goes on and on

  • illuhD  I wonder what would happen if you deleted the 1 kb files, and anything smaller.  Please understand that this is just an experiment; do NOT save your progress.

With your save loaded, but with a lot loaded that looks the way it should, open the scratch_[numbers] folder and sort it by file size.  Delete any file that's less than 3 KB AND that ends in .sav; don't touch the package-clientDB or package-HouseDescription files.  Then, without quitting or going back to the Main Menu, try to load one of the lots that's missing its data.  Let me know what you find.

Separately, try loading a lot that looks fine, deleting the same small files, then using "save as" to rename the save and therefore create a new save slot.  Reload the game and see whether the broken lots are back to the defaults.

Neither of these steps would recover your missing builds, but maybe this would restore the lots enough for you to place something else there.  Or maybe not; I have no idea.  But it's easy to try.
