Crashes every hour, Code 0xc0000005 python37_x64.dll

Hi everyone,

These times, i can't play anymore The Sims 4 because i face crashes in the game with the same error code. The game freeze a bit and just close itself :

I can't enumerate the amount of things I tried to fix it, but I'm now in a desperate situation when i tried everything i read on the different forums and I don't know what to do anymore :

  • My PC is a 14700k, MSI Z790 Gaming Plus WIFI, 4080super, 32go RAM, win11.
  • Nothing is overclocked for more stability.
  • My GPU is updated.
  • I did a stress test and it went good. Nothing to compare with my SIMS 4 + OBS activity.
  • I unstalled the Sims 4, EA APP, repaired it, cleared the caches for both... like 10 times.
  • I caped the fps at 60, and tried every single game setting i found.
  • I play with mods and CC but crashes happens even without its.

Do you have any ideas to help me ? I'm about to hard reset Windows and reinstall everything properly to eliminate every random Windows bug... But i'm kinda lost.

I'm a french content creator for the Sims 4, and I can't work anymore. 😢

Thank you for your help !

  • Hi Cissouryne

    moved this to PC tech.

Could you post your Computer's DxDiag?

    • Press Windows-Key + R
    • Type: DxDiag
    • Click on Save all Information.
    • Attach the Text File to your post
  • Cissouryne  Your dxdiag doesn't list any Sims 4 errors at all, probably because they've been crowded out by some generic Windows update errors.  Even though these are unlikely to be the reason the game is crashing, it's best to clean them up anyway.  So please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Click Windows key-X and select "Powershell (Administrator)" or "Windows Terminal (Administrator)" , whichever you see
    • In the window that appears, copy and paste "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" without quotes, and enter
    • The system will take a little while to validate; if it throws an error, please list it
    • Otherwise, copy and paste "sfc /scannow" without quotes into the window, and enter
    • Post the message you receive

Restart your computer, open Windows Settings > Update & Security, click the box to check for updates, and if any install, restart again afterwards.

These python errors often happen on high-end Intel processors that the motherboard overclocks by default, especially on high-end boards.  Sometimes a BIOS update fixes it, so please look for a newer BIOS for your board.  I believe this is your model:

    https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/pro-z790-p-wifi/support

But double-check the board itself or its documentation.  Your dxdiag lists your current BIOS version as H.70, which is not how MSI lists versions on its support site, so I can't be sure whether you have the most recent version installed.  But that version is from August, so if you've updated the BIOS since then, you should have the latest version.

If updating the BIOS doesn't help, or you have the newest version already, boot into BIOS and disable CPU Turbo Boost, which should be somewhere under Advanced settings.

    Hello !

    Thanks for your answer.

I tried to update my bios, but my usb key had some random problem, and the update didn't make it. I had to flash it, to come back to version 70, it was painfull and scary, but the problem was the key.

So with your help (and chatgpt as advisor), I went to the BIOS to disable every micro-overclocking asset, as CPU Turbo Boost, Intel Boost Technology, XMP...
Since I did these actions, I could record and play during 4 hours without any crash, but in vanilla. I just started to test with mods and cc, it's been an hour now, wait and see.

If I see any instability, I'll update my BIOS. IDK if I should do it too if it's stable, what do you think ?

At any rate, thanks for your help ! It's really better than 3 days ago so we are in the good direction.

  • Cissouryne  You might already have the current BIOS version; that would be something to check internally and compare with what you see on the MSI download page.  But if the changes you made within the BIOS settings have fixed the issue, then no, you don't need to update.

You also probably don't need to disable anything other than CPU Turbo Boost, so you can try reenabling the other settings now.  XMP in particular was thought to be a culprit when this problem first emerged, but I haven't suggested anyone disable it in over a year.  The only players who reported that disabling CPU Turbo Boost didn't help ended up needing to RMA their processor or computer overall.  (That doesn't include people who never got back to me, of course.)

I'm not saying your computer is damaged, only that this particular issue is usually fixed with the one change.  And disabling XMP can have performance implications, depending on what else you're using your computer for and how fast the RAM would run with overclocking enabled.

puzzlezaddict Since my last message :
    - The game + record with obs was stable with no turbo boost, no xmp, no intel boost. So the cpu was capped at 3200mhz i think, but ofc a bit laggy. I could record during 2*3 hours without crash.
    - I tried to add Intel Boost, 20 mins = crash
    - I tried some fixes to let the Intel boost on, but without success.
    - I did the last BIOS update but it didn't change anything.
    - I'm actually testing 1/2 RAM to see if it's not a RAM problem... but I have no hope anymore. xD

I'm about to think my 14700k is just going to die and I have to replace it, what do you think ?

  • Cissouryne  It is possible that your processor is on its way out.  You probably heard about the problems with this and the previous generation, especially the high-end K-series models, where the CPU would crash the system under heavy but not unreasonable loads for reasons that took a while to diagnose.  I read or heard one estimate that up to half of the units were affected, depending on the particular model, and that maybe half of those could be recovered with the BIOS updates meant to address the issue.

That of course means that some were not fixable, either because they were too defective out of the box or because the progressive damage from the problematic settings couldn't be reversed.  It's impossible to tell for sure whether any particular CPU falls into this category.  However, if you are able to RMA your CPU, I would definitely do so.  This problem doesn't get better; either it's stable or it keeps getting worse.  And Intel did eventually agree to accept RMAs from the two affected generations with fewer restrictions than would normally be in place, so you don't necessarily have to prove that your unit is defective in exactly this way.  Hopefully a new one will be fine.

puzzlezaddict Thanks again for your advice, I'm going to see if i can RMA.

I'm now in a new situation with these crashes :
XMP off, Turbo boost off, Intel boost on ; i did my RAM tests.
RAM n°1 on A2, it works. RAM n°2 on A2, it works too. So, when I don't have any RAM on b2, or maybe when my pc doesnt have to deal with 2 RAM, I dont crash... I'll test with 2 RAM on different places, as A1 b1 to see if it can be stable.
