New gaming laptop - sims 4 lagging and crashing already
I've recently bought a new gaming laptop and downloaded the sims 4 and a few packs onto it. Its really laggy and slow, it crashes sometimes too. Ive tried running it without any mods, in windowed mode, cleared caches etc etc but nothing seems to fix it. Running it on 32 bit works a little but not much and its especially laggy on 64 bit. It crashes when i try to use the gallery, cas and when my sim went to use the camera. Frustrated because this is a gaming laptop and should run everything fine! Ive posted my dxdiag below and the last exception file i received.
@robbxe Your laptop may be new to you, but its Windows 10 build is two years old and no longer supported. Start by updating to the latest version, build 1903. You may not be able to do so through the usual Settings > Update path, but you can download and install 1903 directly from Microsoft's site:
After installing 1903, check for Windows updates to make sure you're not missing anything. Click the Windows icon in the lower left corner of your screen and select Settings, then Update & Security, and allow it to scan for updates.
This alone may help with the lag and crashes. Since the graphics card drivers are so much newer than your OS build, the incompatibility could account for how poorly Sims 4 currently runs. Once you've fully updated Windows, please test Sims 4 again, this time in 64-bit mode. Don't run anything else alongside the game, other than Origin of course.
If you're still seeing crashes, please run another dxdiag. One potential issue is your graphics card drivers; their entries are missing a lot of information that's normally present in a dxdiag. This could be fine—some companies' drivers don't have all that info—but if the problems persist, the next step would be a clean uninstall and reinstall of both the Intel and Nvidia drivers.
If you do still get crashes, please run another dxdiag so I can see the new error reports. And if it's necessary, I can provide instructions for uninstalling the graphics card drivers.
hi there, sorry this took so long I've just managed to get it updated to the latest version of windows 10! I've ran the game a few times again and its still crashing, again tried without mods etc and its not lasting longer than about 5 minutes before i receive a bsod and the computer restarts. Tried repairing the game in origin too and still nothing, ive attached my new dxdiag
@robbxe Don't worry about the delay; people come back whenever they have time to troubleshoot.
The new BlueScreens have the same error code as the old ones, a code which generally points to a bad driver of some kind. It's not always clear which driver is the problem. But since Sims 4 is affected, it's most likely the graphics card driver(s), so the next thing to try is to do a clean uninstall of both the Intel and Nvidia drivers and then reinstall them. Here's how to do it:
First, download Display Driver Uninstaller from here:
Next, take your computer completely offline—disable wifi and/or pull the ethernet cord—and double-click the DDU.exe. Take note of where the file will land, and click Extract. If it's easier, you can copy the path (ctrl-C) and then paste it (ctrl-V) into the address bar in a File Explorer window. Open the folder and then Display Driver Uninstaller.exe, and you'll get a message that you're not in Safe Mode. Click OK, then go to Options and enable Safe Mode dialog. Here's a screenshot of what your options should look like:
Choose GPU, then Nvidia, then click Clean and Restart. Your computer will restart in normal mode. Launch the DDU again, reboot into Safe Mode, and repeat the above steps, but this time, choose Intel instead of Nvidia in step 2.
After your computer reboots into normal mode, still offline, you can install the Intel driver, then reboot, and then install the Nvidia driver and reboot again. For the Nvidia driver, choose a custom install, and only install the driver and the PHYSX software.
If it helps, you can print this out, since you won't be able to go back online and have a look until you're done with the whole process.
im searching on the link you provided for the drivers and its not coming up with any nvidia or intel drivers relating to my model, do you know which ones i should be downloading?
@robbxe I linked your exact model of laptop, so all you need to do is click the Driver button under "Download options for your product." The graphics card drivers are near the top of the list, both titled "Grafik driver Medion..."
On my phone, currently trying to install the nvidia driver but it keeps saying ‘the graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware’ - the intel driver has installed fine
@robbxe Sorry I took so long to respond. With the error installing the Nvidia driver, I wanted to ask for a second opinion from someone who's a lot better with these things than I am.
The BSOD error you keep having needs to be addressed, in this case by installing several updates, all provided from the same Medion driver page for your laptop.
Next up is the chipset driver, the third one from the top
After the chipset driver is installed, reboot your computer
Install the touchpad firmware update (second to last), and reboot if your computer doesn't do it automatically
Install the touchpad driver (third to last), and reboot again
The next step is to run a couple of Windows system checks. Here's how:
Hit Windows key-X
Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
Post the message you receive here
Now please run another dxdiag and attach it to your reply along with everything else.
After the dxdiag runs, try to install the Nvidia driver again. Let me know whether it works, or you get another error.
Finally, please upload the last two dump files generated. Open a File Explorer window, enter the address C:\Windows\Minidump\ into the address bar, and grab the most recent files. If you can't attach the files directly to a post, you can upload them to a free filesharing site instead.
Please also let me know whether you play any other games on this computer, and if so, which one(s).
