No Sims/pet noises (music /background audio is fine)

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.93.146.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All expansion packs, except High School Years. Game packs except Journey to Batuu, Dream Home Decorator, my wedding stories and werewolves. Stuff Packs: The Sims 4: Backyard Stuff The Sims 4: Vintage Glamour Stuff The Sims 4: Bowling Night Stuff The Sims 4: Toddler Stuff The Sims 4: Laundry Day Stuff The Sims 4: Nifty Knitting Stuff The Sims 4: Paranormal
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Have your sims speak to each other. There is no sims audio sound, or pet sounds. The music is working fine, the emotional music is fine as well and things like the TV sound is fine. But my sims are not making any noises and neither are the pets.
What happens when the bug occurs? There's no sound from the sims themselves or the pets.
What do you expect to see? I expect to hear the talking noises and pet noises, like barking for dogs. I only played it earlier this week and it was fine, the game then updated earlier this afternoon and now it is not working. I have tried deleting the "Config" and "options" files in the settings. I have also checked there are no commands in the Origin settings.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. I just updated to the latest patch this afternoon,

    @silver9899  Does this happen in a new save as well?  Please test for comparison's sake.

    If the new save is affected, please go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and remove options.ini, then test again.  This will reset all your in-game options to the defaults, so if this doesn't help and you don't want to redo all your settings, just delete the new options.ini the game will have created and put the old one back.

    The next thing to try would be a different sound output device that uses a different type of connection, for example built-in speakers vs. headphones connected via jack.

    @puzzlezaddict thank you! I've tried a new save but its the same in that, I then also tried the other suggestions with the settings but those haven't helped either. I've also tried the different sound outputs but nothing has changed it either.

    @silver9899  Your dxdiag lists a number of Windows errors, so let's start with running a couple of basic checks on your Windows system files.

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

    Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

    Next, please manually update your sound drivers; the Realtek driver at least is somewhat out of date.  Hit Windows key-X, select the Device Manager, open the Audio category, and for each entry, click on it and then click the black and green Update button in the menu.  Repeat for the Sound category, and restart your computer when you're done.

    @puzzlezaddict Thanks so much! Wow I didn't even realise there were issues, it's been fine otherwise. First step was fine, no errors. The second step, this was the message:

    Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

    Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
    For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
    windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
    repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

    Will move on to the next steps in the meantime.

    @puzzlezaddict Searched and there's no updates, I do regularly check updates (and the computer is set to update automatically). Also checked each of the audio settings as suggestion but it just get the message saying Windows has already got the best drivers installed but that "there may be better driver's on the manufacturers website"...

    Have restarted and reopened the game to check and the sound is still not fully working.

    @silver9899  You already have the newest Realtek driver available from Acer for your laptop, so I was hoping Windows might find a newer one.  But apparently not.  It sounds like sfc did its job though.

    I don't know whether updating the graphics driver would help here, but since yours is as old as the sound driver, it's worth updating anyway.  Here again, Acer doesn't offer a newer driver, but Nvidia does:

    Run the driver as an admin: right-click on the download and select "Run as administrator."  Select the Custom (not Express) install option and check the box to perform a clean insatll of the driver.  If you see an option to install the Nvidia driver as well, make sure it's selected.  Restart your computer after installing and before trying to play.

    @puzzlezaddict Hi! Sorry I've only been able to give this a go today as I've not been well and not had time. I've upgraded the graphics driver but that's not worked either. I still can't hear the sims noises, but background and other noises are fine.

    @silver9899  When you tried a different sound output device, did you specifically try headphones or earbuds that plug directly into the computer?  If not, please do so now.
